The old V8 is definitely better but it is still not as great as some rivals. If fuel economy isn’t your top priority then hey, why not do Land Cruiser?

It makes all the difference. And it now is competitive with other large SUVs, and that's despite its off road capabilities. Something that big and powerful can't give you Prius level efficiency.

This was an opportunity Toyota missed, I think. To really make a statement they should have gone hybrid or full electric. In today’s market, the incremental improvement isn’t enough.

It's fine for fuel efficiency for the purpose of what it is. This thing is as solid as an anvil and goes anywhere. And that entails sacrificing for fuel economy.

It's all relative. It sure isn’t as efficient as a BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE, but those aren’t real body-on-framed, off road trucks. But compared to a G-Wagen or Range Rover, it actually looks pretty good.

I am also a disappointed they did not offer a diesel option in more markets. Fuel economy champs in the lineup the diesel Land Cruisers have always been.

It’s missing the point of the Land Cruiser. It's about go anywhere capability and it's about reliability. It’s not fuel efficient, so if that’s what you’re after, then look elsewhere.

If you're keeping it long term though, it is absolutely worth it. These things have crazy value and will run forever. Yes, while you’re not getting all the fancy tech of a BMW X7, you’re getting something that will crush down any car on the road, and will last.

No way. For that kind of money, you could have bought a fully loaded Range Rover — or Mercedes GLS with way better tech and comfort. Right now, the Land Cruiser is living off its reputation.

That depends on what you’re using it for. However, if you actually go off road or need serious towing capacity then, yes. Not or probably not if you’re just cruising around the suburbs.

The peace of mind alone is worth it I'd say. Because you know it's not going to break down on you in the middle of bloody nowhere like some of those European SUVs sometimes are.

It's overpriced, I think, for what you get. The fuel economy is terrible, and for the luxury SUV it feels very dated. The premium for the name is what you’re paying.

If you appreciate the heritage and capabilities of the Land Cruiser, it’s worth it. It's not out there to be a tech laden luxury SUV, it's an honest go anywhere, do everything vehicle that also happens to be comfortable.

There is no sound, no feel to beat a V8. For all its extra efficiency, the new engine lacks the soul of the old one. It's just not that experience however.

Long term reliability is still an experiment. These turbos add complexity, but the V8 is bulletproof. It remains to be seen if its durability will live up to the incredible reputation of the old one.

The V6 performs very well but I worry how it would handle Australia's Outback or even Sahara Desert. Those environments proved the V8.

The V6 is more rounded all round. On the highway, it's a whole lot smoother, but it's got plenty of low end torque for off roading. It's a win-win in my book.
