With AC blasting, how will the Electric XUV300's range hold up in real world Indian conditions?

With AC on full blast, I bet the real world range will be closer to 300 km. Not as impressive as claimed 400+, but still decent.
With AC blasting, how will the Electric XUV300's range hold up in real world Indian conditions?

It will depend a lot on the driving style. If you are gentle on the throttle and use good regenerative braking, you could probably get within proximity of the advertised range even with AC.

No EV does its claimed range in Indian conditions, let’s be real. In summer I'd expect a 30-40% drop.

Mahindra might surprise us. They have been testing these cars in Indian conditions extensively, so perhaps they have tuned the battery and AC system for our climate.
With AC blasting, how will the Electric XUV300's range hold up in real world Indian conditions?
02 January 2025 05:48
Sure, even if it only makes 250–300 km with AC that’s still plenty for daily use. In any case, most people don’t drive that much in a day.
With AC blasting, how will the Electric XUV300's range hold up in real world Indian conditions?
02 January 2025 05:48
The real question is how it will do on highway trips. Regen might be fine for city driving, but doing constant high speed cruising with AC could really kill your range.

What I am more concerned about is how the range is going to degrade over time. After a few Indian summers will it still deliver decent range?
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?
02 January 2025 05:48
I'm not holding my breath. Mahindra has always been weak at software. I expect this to be a fancy looking system that will be buggy as hell for the first year.
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?

They might surprise us. Mahindra's been investing heavily in tech, and the XUV700's system was a big step up. They could really show off with the Electric XUV300.
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?

They could even improve it with OTA updates, even if it’s not perfect at launch. The question is, will Mahindra actually deliver those updates on a regular basis?
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?

I worry more about the basics. Just give me a system which doesn't lag and crash and I'll be happy. Fancy features are secondary.
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?

They should partner with a tech company and use the existing system, such as Android Automotive. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?

The real acid test will be whether it integrates EV–specific features such as range prediction and charging station info. And that’s where many manufacturers stumble.
Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?

The infotainment on the XUV700 actually is pretty good. It could be a solid system if they build on that for the Electric XUV300.
Will the Electric XUV300 be more reliable and have lower maintenance costs over the long term than its ICE sibling?
02 January 2025 05:48
However, EVs tend to be cheaper to maintain, but that battery replacement cost down the road could be a nasty surprise. It's a gamble.
Will the Electric XUV300 be more reliable and have lower maintenance costs over the long term than its ICE sibling?
02 January 2025 05:48
I believe that in the long run it'll be cheaper. Less wear and tear, no oil changes, fewer moving parts and regenerative braking. The savings will add up.
Will the Electric XUV300 be more reliable and have lower maintenance costs over the long term than its ICE sibling?

The real question is whether Mahindra has engineered the electric powertrain well. It may be as simple as maintenance if it is solid. But if not, you’re in for a world of expensive repairs.

Don’t forget about software maintenance. Mahindra updates EVs often and if they make you pay for that, it can add up.
Will the Electric XUV300 be more reliable and have lower maintenance costs over the long term than its ICE sibling?
02 January 2025 05:48
The Electric XUV300 will be a challenge to maintain, and I worry about finding qualified mechanics for it, outside of metro cities. At least the ICE version is something any local garage can handle basic maintenance on.
Will the Electric XUV300 be more reliable and have lower maintenance costs over the long term than its ICE sibling?

What I'm really worried about is the battery degradation. That's a form of maintenance cost, in terms of reduced usability if it loses significant range after a few years.
