With AC blasting, how will the Electric XUV300's range hold up in real world Indian conditions?

Mahindra has been talking up the range of the Electric XUV300, saying it could go over 400 km on a single charge. We all know, however, that EV range claims are overly optimistic in real world conditions. Air conditioning is almost a necessity for most of the year in India, a place where temperatures can soar. Running the AC all the time has a big impact on an EV's range. When you add in unpredictable traffic conditions in major cities, which is stop and go traffic the vast majority of the time, you have a recipe for range anxiety. The other question is how the battery will perform in extreme heat or when making long highway trips. It’s easy to imagine the Electric XUV300 being able to deliver a usable range that doesn’t force drivers to constantly worry about finding the next charging station. For many potential buyers considering making the switch to electric, but concerned about practicality in day to day use, it’s a crucial factor.

With AC on full blast, I bet the real world range will be closer to 300 km. Not as impressive as claimed 400+, but still decent.

It will depend a lot on the driving style. If you are gentle on the throttle and use good regenerative braking, you could probably get within proximity of the advertised range even with AC.

No EV does its claimed range in Indian conditions, let’s be real. In summer I'd expect a 30-40% drop.

Mahindra might surprise us. They have been testing these cars in Indian conditions extensively, so perhaps they have tuned the battery and AC system for our climate.

Sure, even if it only makes 250–300 km with AC that’s still plenty for daily use. In any case, most people don’t drive that much in a day.

The real question is how it will do on highway trips. Regen might be fine for city driving, but doing constant high speed cruising with AC could really kill your range.

What I am more concerned about is how the range is going to degrade over time. After a few Indian summers will it still deliver decent range?
