Is the Electric XUV300’s infotainment system going to be a step up, or is it going to be more Mahindra software quirks?
Infotainment systems and in car electronics have been a bit of a rocky history for Mahindra. Early XUV500s became notorious for their dysfunctional touchscreens and software but even some among the newer models have got a bad rap for sluggish interfaces or unintuitive design. The Electric XUV300 is a chance for Mahindra to put their foot down. The reason electric cars have more advanced infotainment systems is that they come with things like detailed energy consumption data, a charging station finder and even over the air updates. But building a smooth, bug-free system is no small task for a company that is still relatively new to the EV game. Can Mahindra deliver a modern, responsive interface that will be able to compete with Hyundai and MG in this EV space? Or will this be another case of a system that looks great on paper, but is a headache to use in practice? It's one of the key aspects of owning an EV, especially for tech savvy buyers who expect their EV to be as smart as their smartphones.

The infotainment on the XUV700 actually is pretty good. It could be a solid system if they build on that for the Electric XUV300.

The real acid test will be whether it integrates EV–specific features such as range prediction and charging station info. And that’s where many manufacturers stumble.

They should partner with a tech company and use the existing system, such as Android Automotive. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

I worry more about the basics. Just give me a system which doesn't lag and crash and I'll be happy. Fancy features are secondary.

They could even improve it with OTA updates, even if it’s not perfect at launch. The question is, will Mahindra actually deliver those updates on a regular basis?

They might surprise us. Mahindra's been investing heavily in tech, and the XUV700's system was a big step up. They could really show off with the Electric XUV300.

I'm not holding my breath. Mahindra has always been weak at software. I expect this to be a fancy looking system that will be buggy as hell for the first year.
