Chevrolet Trax Review
Expert Review by Maxabout
Chevrolet Trax Crossover is a compact SUV which was first shown at Paris Auto Show 2012 as a concept model. This SUV is based on prestigious GM Gamma II platform which is co-shared by Opel Mokka. Its working model was shown at North American International Auto Show 2013 and was available for test drive at Montreal Auto Show 2013. It was promoted under the name of 'Holden Trax' in Australian and all Oceania market and under the name of 'Chevrolet Tracker' in Russian and Latin American market. It is currently being produced by GM Korea and General Motors Mexico.
In terms of looks it has design cues of its elder sibling, the Captiva, only smaller with the additional features of beefed up wheel arches, typical Chevrolet grille, a sporty bumper with streamlined shoulders pacing from bonnet to boot along the body, stylish front sweptback headlights, its tailgate mounting a spoiler, vast roof rail, a spare tyre at the back and its small built and high loading lips. It has a beautifully decorated interior with spacious dashboard, power steering with controls, leather finished gear knob, seats and steering, powerful AC with automatic climate control, power windows with electrically adjustable outside door mirrors, folding rear seats, rear AC vents, tinted glass, adjustable driver seat, rear wiper and defogger, quality audio system and rear seat belts. It has a vast 533 litres of boot space which extends up to 1374 litres when the last row is folded.
Chevrolet Trax Crossover is expected to be available in petrol and diesel engine. The 1796cc 1.4L Turbo I4 petrol engine which produces a maximum power of 140 bhp at 6300 rpm and maximum torque of 178 Nm at 3800 rpm and the 1686cc 1.7L I4 Turbo diesel power-train engine generates a maximum power of 130 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 300 Nm at 2000-2500 rpm and both these comes with a five speed manual transmission. Trax has a top speed of 150 kmph and has a mileage between 11-13 kmpl. It has a wheelbase of 2555mm and has the dimensions with the length of 4248mm, width of 1766mm and height of 1674mm. As far as safety features are concerned, it has two front Airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, engine Start/Stop button, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), TC (Traction Control) and Hill Start Assist with Hill Descent Control. It has disk brakes on all the four wheels. Overall, Chevrolet Trax Crossover is a fine mix of comfort, safety, luxury, space, performance and speed with a fine price and it meant to give a strong competition in its segment.
