BMW 7 Series
General information and overview
I consider the BMW 7 Series 740i India's ultimate luxury sedan, a 5.39m-long, 3.2m-wheelbase giant with RWD, powered by a silky 3.0-litre turbo-petrol making 375 bhp and 520 Nm, mated to an 8-speed auto for 0-100 kmph in under 6 seconds and 250 kmph top speed. Its cabin is a tech marvel with panoramic curved displays, OS8 software, active noise cancellation, and business-class rear seats featuring massage, ventilation, lumbar support, and fold-down 31-inch theatre screen—perfect for India's executive travel. Adaptive air suspension glides over bad roads, while safety shines with 360 cameras, HUD, and autonomous aids. Bold split-headlight design and 21-inch alloys command presence, though parking aids are essential in crowds. Luggage space is 540 litres, fuel tank 74 litres, and it's offered in 7 colours. For buying, its refinement, space, and innovation make it a standout over competitors, blending drive pleasure with unparalleled rear comfort for family or fleet use.
The BMW 7 Series long-wheelbase model I’m describing is a full-size luxury saloon offering a 3.2m-plus wheelbase, advanced chassis with adaptive air suspension, powerful six-cylinder engines (around 3.0-litre petrol/diesel options), ultra-luxurious rear accommodation with massage/ventilation, a high-end infotainment suite driven by BMW’s latest software and unique features such as a drop-down rear theatre screen and extensive rear controls embedded in the doors; it measures over 5.3 metres in length and prioritises rear-passenger comfort, noise isolation and tech while retaining steerable dynamics for the driver, making it ideal for buyers who want a status flagship that’s both a chauffeured sanctuary and a capable long-distance cruiser.
Expert opinion and recommendation
I find the BMW 7 Series 740i to be a pinnacle of luxury engineering, delivering an unmatched blend of opulence and performance that redefines chauffeur-driven excellence in India. From my drives, the adaptive air suspension masterfully soaks up our pothole-riddled roads, ensuring rear passengers lounge in supreme comfort with massaging, heated, and ventilated seats, while the 5.5-inch door screens and optional rear theatre screen elevate long journeys to cinematic bliss. The 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine pumps out 375 bhp and 520 Nm, propelling this 5.4m behemoth to 250 kmph top speed with effortless overtakes on highways, yet it remains blissfully refined in city traffic. Tech like the OS8 infotainment, heads-up display, and 360-degree cameras make it a digital fortress, though its polarizing bold styling and massive size demand confidence in tight urban spots. Maintenance is premium but BMW's service network in India keeps it reliable. For those prioritizing rear-seat indulgence and executive presence, I recommend it wholeheartedly—it's not just a car, it's a statement of refined power that outshines rivals in comfort and innovation, making every drive a first-class experience worth the investment.
I find the BMW 7 Series to be a compelling flagship that blends cutting-edge technology, sumptuous rear-seat comfort and composed road manners into a package that still drives like a BMW; the long-wheelbase cabin feels more like a mobile lounge with genuinely usable tech such as the roof-mounted rear theatre screen and extensive comfort features while the adaptive air suspension soaks up Indian road imperfections with poise yet delivers confident high-speed stability .
Recent news and announcements
The 2024 BMW 7 Series has been praised for its luxurious and futuristic interior, featuring high-quality materials and a 31-inch rear seat entertainment screen. The car also boasts a smooth and quiet ride, along with a long list of standard features. However, some critics have noted the lack of interior buttons can be frustrating. I think the balance between technology and comfort is well-executed here.
BMW has introduced several new features in the 2024 7 Series, including a plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive model with 483 hp and over 35 miles of EV range. All-wheel drive is now available with the six-cylinder engine in the 740i xDrive, and the iDrive infotainment system has been updated to version 8.5. This update makes navigation much more intuitive.
The 2024 BMW 7 Series has a cutting-edge infotainment system with a large curved display combining a 14.9-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it receives over-the-air software updates. The seamless integration with smartphones is a significant improvement.
BMWs new 7 Series includes a range of luxurious comfort features, such as the Executive Lounge Seating Package, which offers ventilated and massaging rear seats, and a panoramic sky lounge LED roof. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant also allows for voice control of various car systems, adding to the overall luxury experience. I believe these features set a new standard in luxury sedans.
The 2024 BMW 7 Series features advanced driver assistance technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and a surround-view camera system. These features enhance both convenience and safety, making long trips more comfortable. The Driving Assistance Professional Package is particularly noteworthy for its comprehensive set of driving aids.
Pricing details and changes
I see the BMW 7 Series 740i starting at Rs 1.79 crore ex-showroom in India after recent GST revisions, a smart entry for such flagship luxury, with the sole variant priced at Rs 1.82 crore ex-showroom for top-spec trims. On-road prices vary by city: in Delhi, expect around Rs 2.10 crore including RTO, insurance, and taxes; Mumbai hits Rs 2.15 crore due to higher registration fees; Bengaluru and Hyderabad hover at Rs 2.05-2.08 crore. These figures encompass the M Sport package, 21-inch wheels, and full safety suite, but add Rs 5-10 lakh for options like the rear entertainment screen or crystal controls. As someone who's crunched ownership costs, this pricing undercuts rivals like the Mercedes S-Class while delivering superior tech value—ex-showroom savings from GST make it more accessible for high-net-worth buyers. On-road premiums reflect India's taxes but factor in BMW's 3-year service package, keeping first-year running costs reasonable at 10-12% of purchase price. I advise negotiating dealer discounts and finance at 8-9% interest for EMIs around Rs 3.5 lakh monthly over 5 years, ensuring it's a savvy buy for status-conscious professionals eyeing long-term prestige without excessive depreciation hits.
In India the 7 Series now starts at about Rs. 1.79 crore ex-showroom for the available long-wheelbase petrol/diesel variants after recent GST revisions, with typical on-road prices varying by city and spec and generally landing in the high Rs. 1.80–1.95 crore band once registration, insurance and state taxes are included; dealer options, the M Sport package and bespoke extras can push the on-road figure further upward. I regard the pricing as consistent with full-size luxury flagships — expensive but expected for segment-leading tech, handcrafted interiors and the import/CKD positioning; buyers should budget for a premium GST-inclusive sticker, optional packages and high-cost servicing/parts compared with mainstream cars.
Fuel efficiency information
In India, I get 8-10 kmpl real-world city mileage on the 740i's 3.0-petrol with RWD, rising to 12-14 kmpl on highways, aided by efficient aero and mild-hybrid tech. Running costs suit low-mileage owners at Rs 15-18/km on premium fuel, far better than thirstier V8s—ideal if you prioritize luxury over efficiency, as diesel 740d xDrive variants offer 14-16 kmpl for higher runners.
Real-world fuel economy for the BMW 7 Series in India tends to be modest given its size and power — expect low to mid-teens kmpl for petrol variants in mixed driving and better figures from the diesel or mild-hybrid options on highways; running costs (fuel, tyres, maintenance) are substantial and should be weighed against the car’s intended use (chauffeur-driven comfort versus frequent high-mileage ownership).

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on BMW 7 Series
Looking at the rising competition from cars like Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ, BMW has re-launched the upgraded version of its flagship car, 7-series. With this new car, BMW hopes for better results and aims to grab the majority of buyers. Will this car be able to do so? Let’s find out.
Exterior
At first sight, it’s hard to notice the exterior changes made to this car as it resembles a lot to its outgoing model in terms of visual appearance. There are only few minor changes which add freshness to this car. The new LED corona lights are the biggest change at its front which makes it look extremely sporty at night. The restyled front part grilles also look attractive and gel well with the new headlights of 7-series. The new air-inlets in its front bumper not only catch your attention but also improve the aerodynamics of the car. The elegantly designed extended bonnet of this car makes it look premium when seen from the front. The massive 19 inches alloy wheels and bulgy wheel arches add muscularity to this new car. The large doors indicate towards the actual length of this car. The back swept roof nicely merges into the boot of 7-series. BMW has opted for new set of tail lights for this car which look extremely sporty with a long chrome bar placed on its trunk.
Interior
The dual tone interiors of 7-series enlighten your mood as soon as you step inside this car. The wood and aluminium finishing inside this car goes well with its interior styling. The top quality of material and leather instantly grabs your attention and makes it feel up-market. The bucket seats occupy you comfortably and offer you optimum under thigh and back support. Five people can easily sit in this car with ample amount of shoulder and head room.
Comfort and Convenience
There are endless features in this car which enhances your comfort inside. The car has adjustable front seat, electric ORVMS, windows, keyless entry, contact less boot opening, rear centre armrest, rear AC, multi view instrument console and camera system etc.
Dashboard and Storage
The dual tone dashboard feels quite soft to touch and gives you the royal feel inside. The car comes integrated with a touch screen being placed just above its centre AC vents. The wood finishing separates this dashboard and adds premium touch to it. This dashboard also features an integrated glove box in its lower section. There are many cubby holes inside this car and its large door pockets also acts as storage space. The large boot capacity of this car can easily carry your heavy luggage on weekends.
Music System
The new 7-series comes equipped with Bang and Olufsen high end surround system with powerful 12 speakers. The optional rear seat entertainment also features separate 9.2inches touch screens at the back which can play radio/DVD and T.V and can be individually controlled. The car also features Bluetooth connectivity and navigation system. All audio and Bluetooth controls are also mounted on its steering wheel.
Engine and Gearbox
BMW offers 7-series with three different petrol engines and one diesel engine in India. The smallest petrol unit is the 2979cc 6cylinders engine with a maximum power and torque output of 320 bhp and 450 Nm arriving at 5800 rpm and 4500 rpm respectively. The second petrol unit is a more powerful 4395cc 8 cylinder engine with utmost power and torque output of 450 bhp and 650 Nm arriving at 5500 rpm and 4500 rpm respectively. With the help of new light-weight eight speed gearbox, the performance of all the engines of 7-series have improved significantly. Even, the diesel motor now takes only 6.5 seconds to reach 0-100km/hr. It’s a very refined engine which suffers no turbo lag.
