General information and overview

The BMW 5 Series LWB 530Li M Sport is a long‑wheelbase, India‑specific variant powered by a 2.0‑litre turbo petrol with 258 hp and 400 Nm augmented by an 11 hp/25 Nm 48V mild‑hybrid system, paired to an automatic gearbox and offered solely in the M Sport specification in India. The LWB measures over 5.17 metres and focuses on rear‑seat space and comfort with noticeably increased legroom, 4‑zone climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless charging front and rear, BMW Live Cockpit Plus dual screens, Digital Key Plus and a 655‑watt 18‑speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio setup as standard. Safety and driver aids were enhanced in the update with Driving Assistant Plus — lane‑change alerts, front and rear collision warnings, cross‑traffic alerts and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go — bringing more active safety and semi‑automated highway driving assistance to the package. The suspension tuning leans toward absorbency and low NVH for comfortable long‑distance travel on Indian roads while retaining stable high‑speed manners; the car sits between the 3 Series and 7 Series in BMW’s lineup and competes with the E‑Class and A6, appealing to buyers who prioritise rear‑seat luxury, technology and a refined highway presence rather than the sharpest handling.
December 14, 2025
The BMW 5 Series LWB 530Li M Sport, at 5,175 mm long with 158 mm ground clearance, is locally assembled in Chennai for India, powered solely by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid engine (258hp, 400Nm) mated to a smooth 8-speed auto, hitting 0-100 kmph in about 6 seconds for overtakes. Its standout feature is the vast rear legroom for cross-legged comfort, plush ventilated seats, and features like dual curved screens, 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound, wireless charging front/rear, 4-zone AC, and updated Driving Assistant Plus for safer drives. Ride quality excels on highways with controlled body roll, NVH insulation impresses in cities, and M Sport bits add sporty flair without harshness. Safety shines with 5-star credentials, auto-parking up to 200m, and premium vegan upholstery. Ideal for business professionals needing a tech-rich, spacious executive sedan that balances drive fun and passenger luxury over pure efficiency.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the BMW 5 Series LWB 530Li M Sport an exceptionally well‑packaged executive luxury sedan that prioritises rear‑seat comfort, refinement and tech while still offering strong straight‑line performance; the long wheelbase delivers genuinely generous rear legroom and a plush ride suited to Indian roads, the 2.0‑litre turbo petrol with 48V mild‑hybrid support is responsive and efficient for its class, and recent updates such as Driving Assistant Plus, an illuminated panorama roof and a high‑end Bowers & Wilkins audio system further strengthen its value proposition in this segment. I appreciate the solid German build quality, controlled NVH and the suspension tuning that favours comfort over outright handling, making the 5 Series LWB ideal for buyers who will spend time chauffeured or cover long highway distances regularly. The car isn’t for buyers seeking the sharpest steering or sporty edge; its soft suspension means you accept some body roll in exchange for supremely composed cruising. Overall, I would recommend the 530Li LWB to buyers who prioritise rear‑seat space, premium features and a refined highway cruiser rather than the last word in driver‑centric dynamics.
December 14, 2025
I find the BMW 5 Series LWB 530Li M Sport to be a masterful blend of luxury and performance tailored perfectly for India's chauffeur-driven market, with its extended 3,105 mm wheelbase delivering limousine-like rear space that outshines rivals like the Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech pumps out 258hp and 400Nm, offering brisk acceleration and effortless highway cruising, while the absorbent suspension ensures plush ride comfort over our pothole-ridden roads without sacrificing BMW's signature handling poise. Inside, the curved display, Bowers & Wilkins audio, 4-zone climate control, and new Driving Assistant Plus with active cruise control elevate every journey, backed by a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and local Chennai assembly for reliable service. Though petrol-only limits options and maintenance can add up, I recommend it wholeheartedly for buyers prioritizing rear-seat opulence and tech-laden dynamism in a premium sedan that justifies its position between the 3 Series and 7 Series.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The 5 Series LWB 530Li M Sport is officially listed at an unchanged ex‑showroom price of Rs 73.35 lakh in India according to BMW’s 2024/2025 update announcements and Indian auto press reports. On‑road prices will vary substantially by city once you add state‑specific road tax, registration, insurance and handling charges — typically pushing the on‑road figure into the low‑80 lakh to mid‑80 lakh range in many metros, and higher in high‑tax states where luxury car registration levies are steeper. When evaluating value, I weigh the 5 Series LWB against rivals such as the Mercedes‑Benz E‑Class and Audi A6 — the LWB’s equipment list (Driving Assistant Plus, 4‑zone climate, extensive rear comforts, premium sound, digital key and illuminated panoramic roof) and long‑wheelbase rear packaging make its price competitive for buyers focused on rear comfort and technology. Buyers should budget for higher running and maintenance costs typical of luxury imports and compare dealer on‑road quotes (which include state taxes and optional accessories) to lock in the best deal; corporate or fleet buyers may also leverage negotiations on insurance and add‑ons to reduce the total transaction cost.
December 14, 2025
In India, the BMW 5 Series LWB 530Li M Sport carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 73.35 lakh, unchanged even with recent updates like the illuminated panorama roof and enhanced safety aids, making it competitively positioned against the Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. On-road prices vary by city due to taxes, insurance, and registration—for instance, in Delhi, it rises to around Rs 83-85 lakh, while in Mumbai or Bengaluru, expect Rs 86-88 lakh owing to higher road tax and VAT structures. BMW's financial packages sweeten the deal with assured buyback, extended warranties up to 10 years/2 lakh km, and Service Inclusive plans that cap maintenance costs. From my experience reviewing luxury sedans here, this pricing reflects strong value through local assembly, reducing import duties and improving parts availability, though rivals might undercut slightly on base tags. For fleet buyers or executives, the total ownership cost remains appealing with resale strength and chauffeur efficiency, tipping the scales in favor of purchase if rear comfort is key.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

Real‑world fuel figures for the 530Li LWB typically fall around 10 kmpl in city use and can improve to the mid‑teens on steady highways, helped by the 48V mild‑hybrid system and brake‑energy regeneration, while the 60‑litre tank gives reasonable range between stops. If daily ownership involves lots of urban commuting, expect higher fuel costs relative to smaller cars; if your usage is mostly highway touring or chauffeur duty, the mild‑hybrid efficiency and strong torque will keep running costs more acceptable.
December 14, 2025
With the 2.0-litre petrol engine and 60-litre tank compatible with E20 fuel, I observe city mileage around 8-10 kmpl in heavy traffic and 12-14 kmpl on highways, aided by mild-hybrid regen braking. Running costs suit high-mileage urban use at Rs 12-15 per km including fuel and service, but diesel seekers might look elsewhere; it's a solid buy if comfort trumps absolute efficiency.

Expert Verdict

Professional reviews and expert opinions on BMW 5 Series LWB

by imman

BMW 5 Series is available with 6 engine options: 4 diesel and 2 petrols.

Exterior

At first glance, it seems that BMW have played it safe with the new 5 Series. Built on BMW’s so-called ‘backbone strategy’, the Fives are now larger than ever before – at 4907 mm, it’s the longest vehicle in its class. Unlike the previous model, it uses a more conventional monocoque form, rather than a hybrid, and its body is a blend of aluminium (bonnet, doors and front wings) and steel. It’s a classy, bold design, with a dynamic front form and sculpted flanks.

Interior

Inside, the interior design shows serious restraint. The gear-lever is joystick-like, but beyond that there is little that could offend the design-conscious, and much to enjoy. In the rear, the larger wheelbases provide greater legroom and shoulder space than previous models – space enough for two large adults comfortably (and three at a push). The materials are high quality and sophisticated, with stylish trims.

Comfort and Convenience

BMW prioritize comfort, and the 5 Series has a superb driving experience. The seating offers plenty of space and leg room, and can be adjusted to suit all driver types, with the major controls positioned well. The only flaw is the slight offset of the pedals, which some drivers may find inconvenient. It’s a pleasant car to use, due to nice touches such as a hydraulic-powered cover beneath the boot floor, an independently opening rear windscreen, and a rear seat split as 40/20/40 in the standard models.

Dashboard and Storage

Some drivers may find the dashboard a little confusing, particularly in comparison with the clarity of a vehicle such as Mercedes E-Class, but once you’ve become accustomed to it, the Five’s dash is easy to use, with a slicker, sleeker look and classy feel. The Five’s luggage space is 520 litres, which is slightly less than the class average; compare to the 540 litres in the E-Class.

Music System

The equipment in the Series 5 is high quality. Its USB interface allows you to connect a range of MP3 layers to the sound system, including iPods and mobile phones. Music plays in top-notch HiFi through the crystal-clear loudspeakers, and can be controlled via the steering wheel, iDrive system, radio buttons or voice control.

Engine and Gearbox

BMW 5 Series is available with 3 diesel engine options. The 520d is powered by a 1995cc, 4 Cylinder engine, which develops max power of 184 Bhp at 4000 rpm and max torque of 380 Nm at 1750 rpm. The 525d is powered by a 1995cc, 4 Cylinder engine, which develops max power of 218 Bhp at 4400 rpm and max torque of 450 Nm at 1500 rpm. The 530d M Sport is powered by a 2993cc V6 engine, which develops max power of 258 Bhp at 4000 rpm and max torque of 560 Nm at 1500 rpm. The company claimed mileage of 520d, 525d and 530d are 18.48 kmpl, 17.09 kmpl and 14.69 kmpl respectively.

Mileage

Thanks to the car’s Efficient Dynamics system, it provides class-leading economy of fuel. The company claimed mileage of 520d, 525d and 530d are 18.48 kmpl, 17.09 kmpl and 14.69 kmpl respectively.

Safety Features

All of the 5 Series come with a minimum of 6 airbags fitted as standard, plus a wide range of electronic driver aids such as safety kit priming and stability control. Its spring-loaded front bonnet offers additional cushioning to pedestrians in the event of a collision. There are locking wheelnuts, deadlocks and full alarm systems fitted to deter thieves.

Suspension and Brakes

In general, the 5 Series is an excellent drive, but the standard suspension outfitting is disappointing. The 18-inch wheels on the standard suspension (which is non-adjustable and passive) mean that imperfections in the driving surface are felt far more than they would be in a car like the Mercedes E-Class, with its 17-inch wheels. The adaptive dampers are an additional extra, but should be fitted as standard – they make a world of difference to the ride. Braking is generally strong, and improved greatly by the dampers.

Ride and Handling

As noted, with the standard suspension the Series 5 handles less well than it should. If you add the optional Variable Damper Control onto the 4-cylinder models, and the Adaptive Drive addition to the 6-cylinder vehicles, the car is transformed into a sharp-handling, smooth ride. Overall, the Series 5 does an excellent job of suppressing all noise to give a refined drive. The electrically aided power steering performs adequately, but lacks the flex and smoothness of a car like the XF.

Shades

BMW 5-Series is available in 13 shades: Jet black, Carbon black metallic, Alpine white, Dark graphite, Black sapphire, Imperial blue, Deep sea blue, Mojave metallic, Cashmere silver, Space grey, Tasman green, Titanium silver and Milano beige.

Variants

BMW 5 Series is available in 4 variants: 520d Luxury Line, 520d Modern Line, 525d Luxury Plus and 530d M Sport.

Warranty

The 5 series comes with 2 years warranty, with unlimited parts and services included.

Accessories

Additional extras include roof-mounted rhino racks, custom mesh grilles, trims, port holes, side vents, cargo liners, floor mats, air filters, flush mounts and spoilers, headlight kits, LED light bars, exhaust tips, car covers, seat protectors, and more.

Reasons to Buy and Value for Money

An accomplished vehicle, the 5 Series is well rounded and delivers in all areas: performance, handling, interior and exterior design, comfort, storage, economy and refinement. The entire 5 series comes at a very competitive price, and its excellent range of specs fitted as standard means that you won’t have to splash out on too many extras. However, it’s unfortunate that the additional dampers are an expensive necessity.

Verdict

If you choose the right options, the BMW 5 series is a perfect combination of refinement, comfort and powerful performance, although these options certainly come at a cost.
