BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition
BMW Variant
General information and overview
The BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is a sporty iteration of the 1 Series, designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts. It features visual enhancements such as new Bi-Xenon LED lights, wraparound LED tail lights, and a more aggressive front fascia with large air intakes. The interior is equipped with premium materials, including Dakota leather, and the latest iDrive system with features like Spotify integration. The car is available with either a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine or a 2.0-liter diesel engine, both of which offer a balance between performance and everyday usability. The M Performance Edition also includes upgrades like M Sport suspension, red calipers, and darkened headlight lenses, enhancing both the look and feel of the vehicle. With its agile handling, comfortable driving position, and robust safety features, this car is a strong contender in the luxury hatchback market in India.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is a compelling choice for those seeking a blend of performance, luxury, and driving dynamics in the compact hatchback segment. While BMW has historically been cautious about introducing the 1 Series in the Indian market, the M Performance Edition brings a welcome dose of sportiness. The cars handling, particularly in sport mode, is exceptional, making it feel agile and responsive. However, the rear leg space and boot capacity are somewhat limited, which might be a consideration for some buyers. The interior is well-appointed with high-quality materials, and the latest tech features, including a user-friendly interface, enhance the driving experience. Overall, its a refined and solid piece of engineering that justifies its premium price tag, especially for those who prioritize driving pleasure.
Recent news and announcements
The BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is set to receive an M Technology Package from November 2024, which includes additional bracing elements, lightweight construction measures, and specific chassis components to enhance performance. This package also features M Compound brakes and 19-inch forged light-alloy wheels, improving the cars steering precision and track performance. I think this package will make the M135 xDrive a standout in its class.
BMW has announced new exterior paint finishes, light-alloy wheels, and interior trim variants for the 1 Series, including the M Performance Edition. The new colors include Fire Red metallic, BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue metallic, and M Brooklyn Grey metallic. These options will allow buyers to personalize their vehicles further. I believe these new colors will really make the car pop on Indian roads.
The 2024 BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition comes with M Performance Parts that significantly enhance its design and performance. These include aggressive front-end modifications, carbon fiber mirror caps, M Performance exhaust, and a rally-inspired wing. The car also features M Performance brakes with drilled rotors, which improve stopping power. This setup is perfect for driving enthusiasts in India who crave a sporty hot hatch.
The BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine, producing 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The engine also features an OPF filter, which slightly tames the sound note compared to other variants. I think this engine is a great balance of power and efficiency for Indian drivers.
The new BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition boasts a redesigned interior with a progressive, premium ambience. It features high-quality surfaces, a redesigned gear selector, and the BMW Curved Display, which includes a 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display. The interior also includes M sport seats with integral head restraints and an illuminated M logo. I believe the new interior design will be a hit among Indian car enthusiasts.
Pricing details and changes
In India, the BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is priced competitively within the luxury hatchback segment. The ex-showroom price for this model typically starts around Rs. 40-45 lakhs, depending on the specific trim and features chosen. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, can range from Rs. 50-55 lakhs. This pricing positions the 1 Series M Performance Edition favorably against its rivals like the Mercedes A-Class and Audi A3, especially considering the unique blend of performance and luxury it offers. However, the cost can be steep for some buyers, and the lack of certain features as standard options might add to the overall expense.
Fuel efficiency information
When it comes to mileage, the BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is reasonable but not outstanding. The 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine or the 2.0-liter diesel engine, depending on the variant, offer mileage that is somewhat in line with other luxury hatchbacks. You can expect around 12-15 kml in city driving and up to 18-20 kml on the highway. While these figures are not the best in class, they are acceptable given the performance and luxury on offer. For buyers concerned about running costs, its essential to weigh these mileage figures against the overall driving experience and features provided.
