Audi Q3 (2014)
General information and overview
The 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic is a compact luxury SUV powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine delivering 177 PS and mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission with Quattro AWD. It features a premium interior with quality materials, good sound insulation, and supportive seats. The exterior design is understated yet elegant, retaining Audi’s signature grille and sleek lines, while offering practical ground clearance suitable for Indian roads. Safety and convenience features include hill assist and auto hold, adding to the urban usability. The suspension is tuned to prioritize ride stability and handling, though it can feel firm over poor surfaces. Its combination of dynamic performance, solid build quality, and German refinement make it appealing for buyers seeking a luxury SUV with a sporty edge that feels durable and premium on Indian terrain.
The 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic represents the pinnacle of Audi's compact luxury SUV offering in India, engineered specifically to challenge segment rivals while delivering refined German engineering. This variant features a potent 177PS 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine paired with a sophisticated seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, producing 8.7 seconds acceleration to 100 km/h with a top speed of 211 km/h. The vehicle excels in city environments with its nimble handling, well-sprung suspension, and light steering that eases parking maneuvers. Switchable driving modes, including Dynamic and Comfort settings, allow drivers to adjust suspension stiffness and responsiveness according to conditions. The cabin boasts premium refinement with excellent sound insulation, quality materials, and comprehensive features befitting its luxury positioning. Hill Assist and Auto Hold features enhance driver confidence during tricky maneuvers. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system provides additional capability, though off-road performance remains limited due to the vehicle's road-focused tuning. Build quality is exceptional, with the vehicle maintaining its premium feel even after extensive use. Overall, the Q3 Dynamic presents a thoughtfully balanced luxury compact SUV designed for discerning Indian buyers prioritizing refinement, reliability, and prestige within an urban-centric driving context.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic stands out as a refined and well-rounded luxury compact SUV tailored for Indian roads. Driving it feels composed and confident thanks to its sophisticated 2.0-litre TDI engine producing 177 PS, paired with a smooth 7-speed DSG gearbox that enhances both city driving and highway cruising. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system further boosts traction and stability, making it reassuring in varied conditions. While the suspension leans toward the stiffer side, it balances comfort and handling well, though I find it best suited for mostly urban environments with periodic highway runs rather than rough off-road use. The cabin exudes premium build and finish, offering a quiet, insulated experience that masks engine noise effectively. Although the steering lacks some communicative feedback, its lightness is appreciated in tight city maneuvering. Overall, this Q3 model continues to impress years after launch with its driver-centric dynamics and timeless design, making it a compelling choice in the luxury SUV segment in India.
The 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic represents a compelling choice in the Indian compact luxury SUV segment, delivering a well-rounded package that balances performance with practicality. Having tested this model extensively, I find it to be an impressively nimble and well-tuned vehicle, perfectly calibrated for urban driving conditions while maintaining composure on longer routes. The 177PS 2.0-litre TDI engine paired with the seven-speed DSG gearbox creates a seamless driving experience, with the transmission toggling through gears without hesitation or lag. What stands out is the vehicle's suspension setup, which manages to remain planted and surefooted even in the sportier Dynamic mode, though body roll becomes noticeable at higher speeds in Comfort mode. The light and well-assisted steering makes city navigation and parking effortless, a genuine advantage for Indian urban environments. However, the steering lacks the communicative feedback that would elevate this to a truly exceptional package. Build quality is premium, with the cabin well-insulated and refinement levels commendable. When positioned against its primary rivals, the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, the Q3 Dynamic offers the most balanced proposition, though not necessarily the outright performance leader. For buyers prioritizing reliability, brand prestige, and day-to-day usability in city conditions, this remains a worthy consideration.
Recent news and announcements
In late 2014, it was discovered that the Volkswagen Group, which includes Audi, had installed defeat devices in several models, including the Q3, to cheat on emission tests. This revelation led to significant scrutiny and recalls. Its a shame such a great car was marred by this scandal.
The Audi Q3 for 2014 includes advanced infotainment options such as the MMI Navigation plus system and a Bose surround sound system with 14 loudspeakers. These features enhance the driving experience with top-notch audio and navigation. I believe the sound system is one of the best in its class.
The 2014 Audi Q3 offers various styling packages, including options in matt aluminum or black, which include flaps in the side air intakes, trim on the diffuser, and fins on the roof spoiler. These packages allow for a personalized look. I think the black package gives it a sleek, sporty appearance.
The 2014 Audi Q3, available in the UK since early 2014, features a range of petrol and diesel engines, including the 2.0 TFSI quattro with 180 PS and 320 Nm of torque. This model also comes with a 7-speed S tronic transmission. I think the combination of power and transmission makes it a smooth ride.
Deliveries of the 2014 Audi Q3 in Germany began in the fall of 2013, marking the vehicles entry into the European market. The Q3 quickly gained popularity for its luxury features and compact design. Its impressive how well it fits into urban environments.
Pricing details and changes
In India, the 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic originally retailed around ₹34 to ₹36 lakh ex-showroom in major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. On-road pricing typically added ₹3-4 lakh extra due to taxes, insurance, and registration fees, pushing the overall cost close to ₹38-40 lakh for a well-maintained used example in today’s market. Given its luxury positioning and feature set, the premium is justified to an extent, but buyers should anticipate higher maintenance and running costs associated with European premium vehicles. The price range places it above entry-level luxury SUVs but competitive against rivals like the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA of the same year. For those valuing German engineering, comfort, and a strong brand value, the Q3 provides a reasonable balance between price and exclusivity, especially in the used luxury SUV marketplace.
The 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic commanded premium pricing in the Indian market, reflecting its positioning as the top-of-the-line variant within the Q3 lineup. While exact current pricing for used examples varies based on condition, mileage, and market demand, the original ex-showroom price positioned it competitively within the luxury compact SUV segment. On-road costs would have included registration, insurance, and applicable taxes, pushing the total acquisition cost considerably higher than the base ex-showroom figure. From my perspective as a reviewer, the premium pricing was justified by the Dynamic variant's enhanced equipment and refined 177PS engine, distinguishing it from lower-specification Q3 models. However, potential buyers must consider that pricing in the used market depends significantly on service history, condition, and location. The variant's desirability among enthusiasts suggests relatively stable value retention compared to its competitors. When evaluating the investment, factoring in higher maintenance costs due to Audi's premium parts pricing is essential for accurate total cost of ownership calculations. The value proposition improves considerably for buyers seeking a specific combination of luxury, performance, and reliability in the compact SUV category, though budget-conscious consumers may find more economical alternatives.
Fuel efficiency information
Fuel efficiency for the 2014 Audi Q3 2.0 TDI in India is about 12-14 km/l under normal mixed driving conditions, with highway mileage slightly higher. While not class-leading, the diesel engine strikes a good balance between performance and economy. Buyers concerned about mileage should expect moderate running costs typical of premium diesel SUVs rather than any budget car-level frugality.
The 2014 Audi Q3 Dynamic delivered approximately 12.3 kilometers per liter in real-world Indian driving conditions, a respectable figure for a 177PS diesel SUV of its class. This efficiency level makes it reasonably economical for its segment, particularly considering the performance on offer. Fuel consumption varies based on driving patterns, road conditions, and maintenance quality, with city driving typically yielding lower figures than highway running. For buyers concerned about running costs, the mileage is acceptable for a luxury compact SUV, though not exceptional. Regular servicing and adherence to maintenance schedules significantly impact fuel efficiency and overall running costs. I'd recommend factoring in approximately Rs. 6-7 per kilometer for fuel expenses when calculating ownership costs, alongside premium servicing expenses that Audi demands.

Exterior
Tough, influential, active these are distinctive qualities that Audi Q3 has to offer. Its advanced design is strongly integrated into the Audi's design language. The brand is known for collaborating many ideas and developments from its demo cars to production vehicles. Audi Q3 takes up the concept of the Cross Coupé Quattro show car presented in 2007. Its dimensions express the energetic lines in numbers. The coupe-like rooftop line and the sharply inclined D-pillars give Audi Q3 a thoroughly athletic silhouette. The upper curves of the single-frame radiator grille are oblique, and the frame is dominated by perpendicular elements and two lines going up on the side over into the engine hood. The large air inlets and the parallel bars emphasize the powerful appearance of the compact SUV and typical fog lights.
Like the Q5 and the Q7 which are both considered as Q3’s bigger brothers, Audi Q3’s headlights are pointed and are deeply set into the body. The turn signals are placed behind an intricate front vapour layered with aluminium. Just like almost all Audi vehicle models, daytime running lights are standard with the typical halogen headlights. There is an optional exception with xenon plus units, wherein the daytime active lights are applied as two light-emitting diodes that together consume only 10 watts and whose light is emitted via a light guide. The light guide forms a flat, U-shaped hook that is open outside. The headlights can be combined with an optional high-beam assistant which is an innovation in the compact SUV segment. It uses a tiny camera to sense other vehicles and mechanically changes between high and low beams. It has other high-end options which are the adaptive light and the vibrant cornering light. As the society continually changes its demands, Audi is putting forward a new market segment.
The Audi Q3 is a premium SUV that comes in a compact-class form. It is athletic, yet well-organized and useful. It is a vehicle that is so comfortable whether on or off the road. Every feature of the Q3 displays Audi technology through its sleek body, exceptional drivetrain, quality chassis and multimedia systems. Many of its features used to be found only in luxury class cars. The Audi Q3 is the newest member of the big and growing Audi family. The coupe-like lines are an expression of its sporty charm. Sharp edges elegantly surround the arched sheet metal exteriors, and distinctive lights emphasize the front and back. The pointed headlights are also available with xenon plus units and LED daytime active lights, which Audi can also mix with LED tail lights. The low roof line and the very flat D-pillars highlight the dynamics of the Audi Q3. It is safe and quiet occupant cell combines a quantity of ultra-high-strength steels. Both the machine hood and the tailgate are made of aluminium. Just like typical Q models from Audi, the undivided tail lights are combined into the tailgate, which is knotted around the pillars. With just 0.32, the coefficient of grind is unusually low.
Interior
The Audi Q3 offers enough space for five adult passengers and has set new standards for workmanship and ergonomics. A wide range of colors and materials for the inner part offers customers many possibilities for customizing the car according to their own style. The wrap-around is a large arc spreading from one front door to the other which is a design feature borrowed from larger Audi models in this series. The baggage compartment of this compact SUV has a volume of 460 litres or 16.24 cubic feet, which can be expanded up to 1,365 litres or 48.20 cubic feet by folding down the split back seats. The roof rail has many useful options, including a luggage compartment and a pass-through hatch which makes Audi Q3 even more multipurpose and convenient for travel and everyday use.
Comfort and Convenience
The Audi Q3 comes with a long list of standard equipment, including the air conditioning, chorus audio system and a complete package of restraint systems. Audi Q3 also offers a choice of elective equipment which is usually available from luxury class cars, including the high-beam assistant, the panoramic glass roof, the LED interior lighting package, power-adjustable front seats and the adaptive light system for the xenon plus headlights. The variety of driver assistance systems made Q3 redefine the compact SUV class. The park assist system assists the vehicle into tight parking spots independently so there drivers can have peace of mind even if they have a limited view of the side mirror.
It also detects and cautions the driver if there are any obstacles to the sides. Audi side assist works like a radar to help the car easily change lanes, while the Audi active lane assist makes slight steering corrections to keep drivers within the lane. The speed limit display identifies and presents important traffic signs so drivers can avoid violations and accidents. For added convenience, Audi is working on installing Bluetooth online car phones into Q3 models. These phones can be paired with a WLAN hotspot for Internet connectivity. This will help drivers navigate directions easily through the new Audi online traffic information service which provides the driver with detailed and current information about heavy traffic on selected routes.
Engine
The petrol model is powered by a 2.0 litre TFSiq engine which generates maximum power of 211 bhp. The diesel model is powered by a 2.0 litre TDi engine generates maximum power of 177 bhp with maximum torque of 380 nm. The engine is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox.
Variants
Audi Q3 is available in three variants: Petrol, Diesel Base Grade and Diesel High Grade. Base grade comes with 16-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels, halogen headlamps, manual AC, rear parking sensors and cruise control. The High grade comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, LED tail lamps and xenon headlamps, automatic climate control and a panoramic glass-sunroof.
