Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4

About
The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 is a compact hatchback that stands out with its sleek design and advanced engineering. Powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with MultiAir technology, it delivers 103 Bhp and 130 Nm of torque, making it quite perky on the road. The car features a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, along with an electronic limited slip differential to enhance handling. Inside, the MiTo boasts a well-built interior with features like leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and a range of safety features including airbags, ABS, and ESP. With a top speed of 187 kmh and a 0-100 kmh time of 10.7 seconds, the MiTo is a fun-to-drive car that combines performance with a touch of Italian flair. However, its worth noting that the rear seat space is limited, and the car may not be the best choice for those needing ample rear passenger room.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4, while aesthetically pleasing and technically advanced, presents a mixed bag for potential buyers in India. The cars 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, equipped with Alfa Romeos innovative MultiAir technology, offers impressive power and efficiency, with 103 Bhp and 130 Nm of torque. However, the handling can be somewhat erratic, particularly in certain driving modes, which may take some getting used to. The lack of rear seat space and the quirky behavior of the dual-clutch transmission in the TCT variant are notable drawbacks. Despite these issues, the MiTos responsive steering, especially in the A or All Weather mode, and its well-built interior make it a compelling choice for those who value driving dynamics and style.
Price
The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 is priced at approximately 21,00,000 ex-showroom in Delhi. When you factor in the on-road costs, including taxes, registration, and insurance, the price can easily exceed 25,00,000. While this places the MiTo in a premium segment, its important to consider the unique features and the brands heritage. For those who are willing to invest in a car that offers a blend of performance, style, and advanced technology, the MiTo could be a worthwhile choice. However, the premium pricing may deter some buyers who are looking for more practical and cost-effective options.
Latest Updates
Tuesday, 20 August 2024 12:08 AM The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4, particularly the MultiAir engine variants, have been praised for their innovative engine technology. The MultiAir system, which controls the lift and duration of the inlet valves via solenoid valves managed by the engine ECU, enhances performance and efficiency. This technology helped the MiTo achieve impressive acceleration, with the 170hp version reaching 0-62mph in just 7.5 seconds. I think this tech was a game-changer for small engines.
Monday, 19 August 2024 03:11 PM Despite its stylish and sporty design, the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 has faced criticism for its uncomfortable suspension and cramped rear seating. The cars suspension, while conventional and easy to maintain, often results in an unsettled ride, which can be downright uncomfortable for passengers. I believe this is a significant drawback for potential buyers looking for a smooth ride.
Tuesday, 20 August 2024 12:09 AM In terms of reliability, the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 has a below-average score. Data from MotorEasy shows that the MiTo has a reliability score of 62%, with an average repair cost of over £400. This includes issues such as brake system problems and seat belt pretensioner malfunctions, which have led to recalls. Its crucial for buyers to check the vehicles history before purchase.
Thursday, 20 January 2022 06:01 PM The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 was well-equipped even in its entry-level variants, featuring amenities like air-conditioning and Alfa’s ‘DNA’ system. This system allowed drivers to choose between Dynamic, Normal, or All-Weather modes, enhancing the driving experience. However, the interior build quality and materials have been criticized for feeling cheap and lacking in space.
Thursday, 20 January 2022 07:12 PM The MiTo 1.4 was available in various trim levels, including Turismo, Lusso, Veloce, and later the Cloverleaf and Quadrifoglio Verde. Each trim level offered different features and styling, with the Veloce boasting a body kit and 17-inch alloys. These variations helped keep the MiTo competitive in the market, although it never quite matched the popularity of rivals like the MINI.
Monday, 25 May 2020 11:46 PM The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4s engine lineup included several 1.4-liter petrol units, with the MultiAir engines being a highlight. These engines offered significant power boosts, such as the 135hp and 170hp versions, which were introduced in 2010. The MultiAir technology was a key selling point, making the MiTo more appealing to performance-oriented buyers.
Wednesday, 01 November 2017 08:20 PM In 2017, a recall was issued for the Alfa Romeo MiTo due to a potential issue with the front seat belt pretensioner. This recall affected vehicles produced between September 2016 and March 2017. Buyers should ensure that any necessary remedial work has been completed before purchasing a used MiTo.
Saturday, 01 December 2012 10:36 AM An earlier recall in 2012 addressed a problem with the brake servo pipe, which could fail and cause a loss of vacuum assistance, requiring additional effort when braking. This recall affected vehicles produced between June and September 2012. Its essential to verify that these issues have been resolved in any used MiTo being considered for purchase.
Saturday, 01 December 2012 02:33 PM The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4s handling was praised when equipped with the right tires. The cars suspension, although sometimes uncomfortable, provided decent handling capabilities, especially in the Dynamic mode of the ‘DNA’ system. However, the electrically-assisted steering could sometimes be problematic, requiring further investigation if any issues arise.
Thursday, 01 September 2011 07:51 AM The MiTo 1.4s fuel economy was another positive aspect, with some variants achieving up to 47mpg. This made the car a reasonable choice for those looking for a balance between performance and efficiency. However, the diesel option was less popular due to its impact on the driving experience.
Mileage
Friday, 22 November 2024 10:12 AM The Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 offers decent mileage for its class, with official figures suggesting around 50.7 mpg (or approximately 18 kml) under ideal conditions. However, real-world mileage in India can vary, typically ranging between 12-15 kml depending on driving conditions and habits. This makes the MiTo a reasonable choice for those concerned about running costs, especially considering its performance-oriented engine.

Discussions and Questions Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4

Is the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 actually any fun to drive, or is this merely style over substance?
30 January 2025 09:45
The MiTo 1.4 is the kind of car that puts a smile on your face, as a daily driver. It's not comfortable enough for a long distance ride, but it's comfortable enough for commuting and can still be fun if you want it to be. It has decent punch for overtaking, thanks to the turbo, and it's fun enough on twisty roads to be enjoyable.
What is the reliability of the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4? Is it as bad as people say?
30 January 2025 09:45
I work at an independent garage and we get our fair share of MiTos. They’re not the worst cars in the world, but they have their quirks. The MultiAir system can be expensive to fix if it goes wrong and electrical issues are common. However, with good care they can be decent every day drivers.
What is the long term reliability of the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 interior?
30 January 2025 09:45
As a Japanese car guy, I was worried about the MiTo’s interior quality. So after 3 years I'm pleasantly surprised. It's not perfect - the glovebox feels a bit flimsy - but it's held up better than I thought it would. It still makes me smile every time I get in.
Is the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 a secret gem or a maintenance drama?
30 January 2025 09:45
I believe it’s somewhere in between. The MiTo is definitely a fun car to drive and will turn heads, but you should expect more frequent maintenance than your average Japanese hatchback. If you can work on it and you have a good relationship with an Alfa specialist it can be a lot of fun.
But how does Alfa Romeo’s DNA system actually affect how the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 drives?
30 January 2025 09:45
DNA is not a gimmick and it is not magic, but it is more than that. It does make the car feel more alive in the lower gears, in dynamic mode at least. It also seems less intrusive with the traction control. In slippery conditions, all-weather mode is genuinely useful, the car feels more planted.
