Toyota India unvieled its all new small car Etios Hatchback and Etios concept at the Auto Expo 2010. In addition to India, the Toyota Etios Liva will also be sold in Russia, South America and perhaps other emerging markets. Now, the company has launched the diesel variants of Etios and Etios Liva to boost the sales. Toyota India has also reduced the wating period of Etios from eight months to only 1-2 months because many customers started canceling the booking to non-availability and long waiting period. The base variant of Etios Liva diesel has been priced at Rs. 5.54 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi).

Toyota Etios Liva diesel is powered by same engine which powers the Corolla Altis diesel but it has been fine-tuned to increase the fuel efficieny which is expected to be around 22 kmpl on highway. But the negative aspect of this is that power is only 67 bhp, which seems to be very less for a car of this segment and it is for sure that Etios Liva diesel will have poor acceleration. The ARAI certified mileage/average of Liva Diesel is 23.59 kmpl.

Design and Styling of Etios Liva Diesel

On the outside, the Etios Liva Diesel has sharp styling cues with a big smiling grille that has been high-mounted especially for India. The car has a strong shoulder line with an upward cut along the bottom of the door. Etios Liva Diesel looks much more proportioned and well balanced in comparison to bland looking sedan variant. It is expected that the customers who want to own Toyota product and want to spend around five lakh rupees, will buy the top model of Etios Liva instead of the base variant of Etios sedan.

Interiors on the Etios Liva Diesel are quite contemporary and the Etios Liva sports a centrally mounted instrument panel with offset AC vents. Etios Liva offers more space on the inside with roomy interiors as compared to its direct competition, the Swift. The instrument cluster including the speedometer and tripmeter, is placed at the middle of the dashboard while the AC vents are in round shape. The three spoke steering wheel comes in dual tone along with the rest of the interior. Toyota Etios Liva Diesel has modern interiors which look attractive and decent.

    I agree most efficient diesel engines are produced by fiat as most of the fuel efficient diesel sedan comes with different brand names for these fiat engines. Fiat has been known for its class cars but when it comes to getting the after sale service the company loses ground, alas but at present they seem to be content in earning royalties from sale of their multijet engines.

    Hey R S I'm extremely thankful to you for your comment which really came as a help.It helped me to understand one thing that never follow the crowd & never follow the big brand tag.I had shortlisted Volkswagen Polo & Suzuki Swift & My dad locked down for Etios, as few of his colleagues were going for it & of course for the name "Toyota. At this time I heard about this site & at that time I saw ur comment.Initially I was opposed to ur comment but later when I compared,it was true what u had commented about fiat & their technology. It came to me as extreme surprise that Maruti-Suzuki & Tata are using fiat’s engine.So the wrong impression which I had for fiat soon started to fade away. Fiat itself is a very big recognized brand; I came to know about this later.

    As for Volkswagen you are somewhat correct. As they are new to Indian Market, that means it will take a quiet a long time for them to settle down. Maintenance & spare part cost is quiet high after I compared it, engine refinement is not that great after comparing it with Fiat. I agree with "Nihal Rajput for he said about Polo that "premium handling like sedan cars, great looks and best in class build quality & ride quality comfort but Fiat Punto also has the same superior premium drive handling like sedan, best in class build quality & superb ride quality like that of Polo or more than that & as well as superb refined engine quality.

    Many of the features is missing in Volkswagen Polo & that too they are charging more price but when I enquired about Fiat Punto's price it was reasonable with all those luxurious features they are providing, so I decided not to invest my money on this VW brand which is using its brand value to attract Indian customers & thereby fooling us. After many comparisons & research, I made my mind for Fiat Punto & I was successful in convincing my dad not to just see only the big brand tag or “everybody is going for it, so I will also go for it” & after giving him some time he agreed for punto.

    Now I’m enjoying its performance, drivability & gizmos. Guys some cool features like we don’t need to warm the engine in early mornings, the 32 bit processor takes care of it,Convenient driver facing key slot, Intelligent Ignition prevents turning the key when the engine is running etc; which R S didn’t mention & most important it’s my dad who is enjoying the ride. I think people just have the wrong misconception,which they accept blindly.Thanks once again for the comment.
