Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 in the Making

Royal Enfield recently announced that they are working on the bigger displacement versions of selected motorcycles from their current lineup. The fact was even confirmed for Royal Enfield Himalayan by Mr Siddartha Lal, CEO Eicher Motors.

The recently spied 750 cc, twin cylinder engine on the motorcycle will be their upgrade which can be used in multiple genre of bikes and hence, could give birth to a better Himalayan or Continental GT. It was currently seen under the updated frame of a Continental GT in the clearest ever spy shots. The engine is expected to bring 50 HP and 60 Nm of torque. This can place the upcoming bikes directly in competition with Harley Davidson Street 750. The updated frame on the Continental GT makes more space for the bigger engine while the test mule uses different set of suspension and wider tyres. The bigger Himalayan would be an effective option to compete against Triumph Tiger series. It will be a surprising move if Royal Enfield plans to launch a bigger Classic, Thunderbird or Bullet series motorcycle with the same engine. Mr Lal confirmed, “Yes, we will. I’d say that in the order of 10% of our motorcycles in India are now 500cc, and 10% is now 60,000 bikes a year, so it’s not a small number anymore – and learning from that, you realise there is a case from the Indian perspective for a bigger engined Himalayan, not just for export markets, I always come back to India because any product that we do manufacture with an eye on other parts of the world has to have its roots in India, where we have 96% of Royal Enfield customers.” He further added, “So back to your question about higher capacity, we have selected which models we will be making bigger and more powerful versions of than we have today, and the Himalayan is one of those – but because our Indian customer says so, not anyone overseas.” Related News - Royal Enfield Pledges to Solve the Problems Related to Himalayan | Know More
