Renault Kardian Unveiled: 5 Key Facts You Need to Know

The Renault Kardian is the French automaker's latest SUV aimed at markets outside Europe, specifically Latin America, and it was introduced at Renault's recent press conference in Rio de Janeiro as part of the company's global plan until 2027. Here are five facts regarding the Renault SUV that you should be aware of:

Based On New Modular Platform

Renault revealed a new modular platform for four major global regions, including Latin America and India, at the event. The Renault Kardian is the first model based on this newly developed architecture, which supports vehicles ranging in length from 4 to 5 meters. Renault's new compact SUV measures 4120mm in length, 2025mm in width (with ORVMs), 1596mm in height (including roof rails), and has a 2604mm wheelbase and it has a ground clearance of 209mm.

Design Details Inside And Out

The sleek front of the Renault Kardian features an all-LED headlamp configuration along with a gloss-black panel insert in the grille that is adorned with several rhombuses that mimic the Renault emblem. Those LED DRLs remind me of the Volvo headlights in the Hammer style. Large air dams, silver skid plates, fog lamps, front parking sensors, and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) radar are all housed in its bumper. The prominent functional roof rails, which can support loads of up to 80 kg, the 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and the appearance of a floating roof all draw attention to this vehicle's profile. The SUV has a more understated appearance from the back, where its C-shaped LED taillights, reminiscent of the Renault Kiger, and large bumper with a silver skid plate dominate the design. With the exception of the center console, AC vents, and steering wheel, Renault chose to design the Kardian's interior entirely in black with silver accents. Additionally, the entire set of AC vents is housed in a gloss-black insert that spans the entire dashboard. The SUV's door pads, front center armrest, and even the seats themselves have fabric upholstery with contrast orange stitching that bears the Renault emblem. In addition, Renault fitted it with a more contemporary gear selector that resembles the one used on the Citroen eC3 and C5 Aircross-style joystick.

Could Inspire The Renault Kiger Facelift

The facelifted Renault Kiger, which we think may be unveiled in 2024, may take cues from these design modifications. We believe Renault might update the Kiger's interior while also drawing design cues from the Kardian's cabin, similar to the exterior. India's Market For SUVs In India, Petrol SUVs

Features And Safety

The Renault Kardian is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital driver's display, paddle shifters, auto air conditioning, and ambient lighting that is eight colors. Additionally, it has four USB ports in total—two on the front and two on the back. Six airbags in all, electronic stability control (ESC), an electronic parking brake, and a 360-degree camera are all part of its safety equipment. Along with these 13 ADAS technologies, it also boasts front collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

A Brand New Powertrain

Additionally, a new powertrain from the French automaker's portfolio will make its premiere with the Renault Kardian. With direct injection, it has a brand-new 1-liter, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 120 horsepower and 220 Nm. It will be equipped with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), which is unique among Renault vehicles in the Latin American market. The three driving modes on the Kardian are Eco, Sport, and MySense. Renault will introduce the third-generation Duster to India in a few years; it is scheduled to go on sale shortly, even if the Kardian is unlikely to come this way. Until then, share your thoughts with us regarding the Renault Kardian and if you would like to see it introduced in India.
