Renault Kardian SUV to Debut on October 25

Renault is all set to introduce a new compact SUV named the Kardian, which will make its global debut on October 25, 2023. This SUV is built upon the latest Sandero Stepway model, offering a fresh take on the SUV design. Ahead of its official unveiling, Renault has given us a sneak peek through teaser images. The Kardian will initially be available for purchase in Brazil, with plans to expand to other emerging markets. Notably, patent images of the SUV had surfaced earlier, providing a glimpse of its appearance.

Renault Kardian's Targeted Markets and Unique Features

The Renault Kardian SUV is strategically aimed at emerging markets, particularly in regions where the Kiger model is not available outside India. South American markets, as well as places without Dacia vehicles, will be the primary focus of the Kardian. It is expected to compete with other small SUVs like Fiat's Pulse. While sharing some components, powertrain, and platform with the Sandero Stepway, the Kardian boasts a fresh front-end design that aligns with the typical SUV styling cues.

Exterior and Interior Features of Renault Kardian

The Kardian's exterior design, as revealed by patent images, will feature split headlamps, a distinctive double-layer grille, a tall bumper with contrasting black elements, and a prominent front skidplate. The side profile will showcase a sporty coupe-SUV body shape, increased ground clearance compared to the Sandero, and rugged cladding around the wheel arches. At the rear, the tail-lamps will sport a unique C-shaped design. Higher-end variants are expected to offer stylish alloy wheels, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and additional chrome accents.

Inside the Kardian, Renault has prepared a stylish dashboard design with an 8-inch touchscreen for infotainment, a drive mode selector, and a four-spoke steering wheel. The interior will feature faux brushed aluminum and wood inserts, along with some piano black accents, depending on the chosen trim level.

Powertrain and Positioning of the Renault Kardian

Under the hood, the Kardian will be powered by a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine. It's worth noting that it remains to be confirmed whether this engine is the same as the one used in the Kiger and Magnite models in India. In terms of positioning, the Kardian is slotted below the second-generation Duster, which is currently available in Brazil. Additionally, the next-generation Duster, based on the same CMF-B platform, is in the works and will be manufactured alongside the Kardian in Brazil.

The Prospects of the Renault Kardian SUV in India

While the Kardian is making its debut in various markets, its entry into India is unlikely. The reason for this is the existence of the heavily localized Renault Kiger, which serves as the Indian counterpart of the upcoming Kardian. The Kiger is based on the CMF-A Plus platform, which is also shared with the Triber MPV and the Nissan Magnite SUV.

Renault's Future SUV Plans for India

In the Indian market, Renault currently sells the Kiger, and there are expectations that the all-new Duster will arrive in India by Diwali 2025. Furthermore, Renault is developing a three-row SUV that will eventually be included to the lineup. These plans demonstrate Renault's dedication to serving India's varied and developing SUV market.
