Renault Kardian SUV Unveiled - A New Era in Style and Performance

Renault has unveiled the highly anticipated Kardian SUV, introducing a fresh design and a powerful 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine. This new strategy will initially target new markets, with the primary focused on South America.

Key Highlights

  • Renault Kardian is built on the new CMF modular platform.
  • It features a brand-new 125hp, 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine.
  • Equipped with a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
  • Targeted for release in emerging markets, with Brazil as the initial launch market.

The Renault Kardian is designed with the South American market in mind and is set to make its debut in Brazil before expanding to other markets where Renault currently lacks a compact SUV, such as the Indian market where the Kiger is available. In South America, the Kardian will compete with recently introduced small SUVs from other brands, including Fiat's Pulse. Renault will commence Kardian production in Brazil, followed by manufacturing in Morocco.

Design and Features

The Kardian boasts a distinctive exterior with split headlamps, robust front and rear bumpers, and a prominent Renault signature double-layer grille. Faux aluminum inserts add a rugged SUV aesthetic to the vehicle. The coupe-like bodyshell and raised ground clearance, along with sturdy cladding on the wheel arches and running boards, contribute to its off-road appearance. The rear of the Kardian features C-shaped tail-lamps reminiscent of the Kiger. High-end variants come with stylish alloy wheels, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and additional chrome accents.

The Kardian has a beautiful dashboard design that is similar to previous Renault SUVs, with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a drive mode selection, and a four-spoke steering wheel. Depending on the variant, the interior features faux brushed aluminum and wood elements, with piano black accents. Higher-end versions will sport 17-inch alloy wheels.

Powerful Engine

The Kardian is powered by an all-new 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generating 125hp and 220Nm of torque. This robust engine is paired with a six-speed DCT automatic gearbox, offering impressive performance. In comparison, the Kiger features a 100hp 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with 160Nm of torque and a CVT automatic gearbox.

?While it's unlikely that the Kardian will be introduced in the Indian market, Renault's CMF platform, which underpins the Kardian, is expected to spawn various vehicles designed for both domestic and export markets in India. The debut of the third-generation Duster, which shares the same CMF platform and will be manufactured in Brazil alongside the Kardian, is scheduled for November 29. With its fresh look and powerful engine, the Kardian is expected to attract the attention of the emerging markets it is aimed at, demonstrating Renault's dedication to introducing innovative and elegant vehicles to a global audience.
