The much-anticipated new-generation Maruti Swift is set to hit Indian markets on 9 May 2024. Here's what we know so far about this fourth-generation model, which continues to excite the hatchback segment.
Design Evolution
The new Maruti Swift retains its iconic silhouette but introduces a refreshed aesthetic. The front end features a redesigned grille and reshaped headlamps, enhancing its modern appeal. The rear door handles have shifted back to a more conventional position, and the alloy wheels sport a new design. At the rear, the bumper is bulkier, and the tail lamps now exhibit a distinct C-shape, contributing to a more robust appearance.
Interior and Comfort
Inside, the Swift adopts an all-black theme with significant upgrades including a vertically oriented dashboard and an 8.0-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system. The climate controls have been updated to toggle switches for a sleeker interface. The interior remains functional, especially in the second row, which includes features like bottle holders and headrests for added comfort.
Despite the 20mm increase in length, the wheelbase remains unchanged, suggesting similar interior space as the previous model, including the 268-litre boot capacity.

Globally, the new Swift incorporates level-2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) to meet stringent safety standards, earning high scores in safety tests. However, it's unlikely that the Indian model will feature level-2 ADAS due to cost considerations.
Powertrain Specifications
Internationally, the Swift is powered by a new mild-hybrid three-cylinder petrol engine paired with either a five-speed manual or a CVT. In India, the trusted 1.2-litre K12C engine is expected to continue, offering 88bhp and 113Nm, with transmission options including a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT. A CNG version will also be available, delivering 76bhp and 98.5Nm, paired exclusively with a manual gearbox.
Market Competition
The Swift competes with a variety of models ranging from the top variants of the Maruti Celerio and Wagon R to more robust offerings like the Renault Triber and Tata Punch. Its primary competitor remains the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, continuing a long-standing rivalry in this segment.
