KTM Unveils the 990 Duke, Packing 123hp and 103Nm of Torque

KTM has unveiled its latest creation the 990 Duke featuring a robust 947cc parallel-twin engine derived from the 890 Duke R’s 889cc twin-cylinder powerplant, and the new offering packs a punch with 123hp and 103Nm of torque, surpassing the 890 Duke R by 2hp and 4Nm.

Upgraded Chassis and Cycle Components

The 990 Duke has an all-new steel trellis frame, supported by a high-performance USD fork and a monoshock from WP. The USD fork boasts adjustability for compression and rebound, while the mono-shock offers customization for rebound and preload. Braking duties are handled by KTM-branded 4-pot calipers clamping down on 300mm discs at the front, while a single 240mm disc paired with a single-piston caliper takes care of braking at the rear.

Distinctive Design

The design of the 990 Duke is distinct, characterized by a vertically stacked twin-pod LED headlight, flanked by LED DRLs, and prominent tank extensions and it's a look that prompts opinions, and KTM is keen to hear your thoughts on it.

Agile and Lightweight

With a seat height of 825mm, the 990 Duke is agile and approachable. KTM states a 'complete weight' of 179kg, although it doesn't specify whether this is dry or kerb weight. The bike features standard wheel sizes with a 120/70-ZR17 tire at the front and a 180/55-ZR17 unit at the rear, utilizing Bridgestone S22 rubber.

Advanced Electronics

The 990 Duke boasts a comprehensive suite of electronic rider aids, including five riding modes, a bidirectional quick-shifter, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, and a notable addition – cruise control, making it the first parallel-twin Duke model to offer this feature.

Features and Connectivity

Initially, KTM provides access to the full suite of features for the first 1,500km, after which certain functionalities become paid. Notably, this includes the Track and Performance modes, enabling access to the lap timer and the ability to fully deactivate ABS and traction control, as well as access to lean angle data. All of this is conveniently managed through a 5-inch TFT display that can be paired with your smartphone via the KTM Connect app.

While KTM has yet to confirm whether the 990 Duke will be available in India it is an exciting addition to the lineup, and we can only hope for its arrival on our shores in the future.
