Introducing the Volkswagen Tayron: A New Era in SUVs

Introduction

Volkswagen has recently pulled the covers off its much-anticipated Tayron, signaling a new era in SUVs. Positioned as the successor to the Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron is set to make waves globally. In China, it adopts the moniker Tiguan L Pro and is slated to hit Indian roads by 2025, where it will enter the competitive arena, challenging contenders like the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.

Sleek Design and Impressive Dimensions

The Tayron presents a sophisticated design, a natural evolution from the latest Tiguan but with enhanced proportions. Sporting a slightly rounded aesthetic, it features an assertive front bumper, stylish alloy wheels, and tasteful chrome accents. Emphasizing versatility, the Tayron initially debuts as a three-row SUV, with a subsequent release of a five-seater SUV-coupe variant.

Delving into the dimensions, the Tayron stands at 4,735mm in length, 1,859mm in width, and 1,682mm in height. This positions it 197mm longer, 17mm wider, and 43mm higher than its 5-seat Tiguan counterpart. The elongated wheelbase, measuring 2,791mm, contributes to a spacious and comfortable interior.

Modern Interior with Advanced Features

Step inside, and the Tayron welcomes you with a modern interior, showcasing a meticulously crafted dashboard, illuminated trim elements, and innovative air vents. Technological prowess takes center stage with a 10.3-inch digital instrument display and a central touchscreen infotainment system, available in 12.9-inch or an impressive 15-inch configuration, depending on the variant.

The infotainment experience is further enhanced by a backlit slider controller, akin to the latest Passat and ID 7, accompanied by the intuitive MIB 4 digital menu structure. Touchscreen HVAC controls integrated into the lower section ensure a seamless and user-friendly interaction with the vehicle's features.

Built for Performance and Efficiency

Underpinning the Tayron is Volkswagen's advanced MQB EVO platform, fortified with stiffening measures, suspension upgrades, and 48V mild-hybrid compatibility. The powertrain lineup in China includes a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with multiple power outputs, complemented by an anticipated 2.0-liter diesel variant in select markets. Across the board, each powertrain is equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system, and drivers can choose between 4WD or 2WD configurations based on their preferences.

Volkswagen goes a step further by offering two petrol plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), boasting an electric-only range exceeding 100km and DC fast charging capabilities. These PHEVs feature a 1.5-liter petrol engine coupled with an electric motor, a 19.7kWh battery pack, and a 6-speed DSG gearbox. However, for the Indian market, the Tayron is expected to debut with the 2.0-liter petrol engine, with no immediate plans for diesel or PHEV variants.

Global Presence and Indian Aspiration

Volkswagen's CEO, Thomas Schafer, positions the Tayron as a truly global model, manufactured across Germany, China, and Mexico. To cater to the Indian market, assembly through CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits is on the cards. This strategic approach not only underscores the Tayron's global appeal but also positions it as a formidable competitor against the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq in India.

As the Tayron prepares to make its grand entrance onto the global and Indian automotive stage, it promises a fusion of elegant design, robust performance, and cutting-edge technology. Keep a watchful eye as this SUV sensation gears up to redefine the driving experience on roads near you.
