Honda Motorcycle and Scooter Pvt. Ltd has made an announcement that the company has commenced the production of 250cc and above category engines at its fourth facility at Vithalapur, Gujarat. This new production plant is the result of the company’s plan to meet the demand for mid-size engines in global markets. According to Honda, the engines manufactured here will be exported to the US, Canada, Thailand, Europe, Australia, Japan, and Gulf countries.

Further talking about this facility, Honda added that this Gujarat plant will be the key supplier of engines all over the world. Not only for overseas, but it will also cater to domestic demands. The company has a plan to produce 50,000 engines in the first production year. Also, the production scale will be increased as per the demand rate from global as well as local markets. It is noteworthy that the manufacturing of engines in our own country might lead to a reduction in retail prices.

Honda recently offered plenty of vehicles with 250cc and above engines in the global markets. The list includes scooters such as the Forza 250, ADV 350, and others, as well as motorcycles such as the CBR250RR, CB300R, CB350, and others. Therefore, to cope with the demand, HMSI made an investment worth Rs 135 crores, as per the media reports. Mr Atsushi Ogata, MD, President & CEO, HMSI Pvt. Ltd., expressed on the launch of this new facility that with the burgeoning demand for vehicles all over the world, the brand intends to increase the number of exported vehicles.

Further, he added, "With the introduction of BS-VI norms in India, we are a step closer to achieving this vision. Building products that are at par with global standards of manufacturing, this new expansion will allow HMSI to develop production capabilities to strengthen our direction of making in India for the world.”
