Gogoro CrossOver Set for India Debut in December

Gogoro, the renowned Taiwanese electric scooter manufacturer, is all set to make its debut in the Indian market with the launch of the Gogoro CrossOver. Production of this highly anticipated electric scooter has commenced at the company's plant in Aurangabad, marking a significant milestone for Gogoro's foray into the Indian electric scooter landscape.

Key Points

Production Kick-off: Gogoro has initiated the production of its maiden electric scooter for the Indian market, the CrossOver, at its manufacturing facility in Aurangabad.

Strategic Market Entry: In a strategic move, Gogoro has chosen India as its first destination outside Taiwan. The CrossOver, unveiled in October, is positioned as a versatile scooter with a focus on cargo-carrying capabilities.

Sales and Partnerships: Post the official launch in December, the sales of the Gogoro CrossOver are slated to commence in early 2024. Initially, a significant portion of the production will cater to B2B partners, including collaborations with major players like Zomato, Swiggy, and Zypp Electric.

Investment Commitment: Gogoro has committed substantial investments amounting to $1.5 billion (approximately Rs 12,300 crore) in Maharashtra, underscoring its long-term commitment to the Indian market.

Versatile Design: The CrossOver boasts a versatile design, featuring a steel tubular frame with a lengthy wheelbase of 1,400 mm – the longest among Gogoro's current scooter lineup. This design allows for extensive cargo-carrying options, including rear, floorboard, and front storage areas.

Cargo-Centric Features: The scooter's design includes a foldable pillion seat that, when adjusted for cargo, serves as a backrest for the rider. The flat floorboard area offers ample space for cargo, making it a practical choice for various purposes.

Specs and Performance: Equipped with a suspension system comprising telescopic front forks and dual rear shock absorbers, the CrossOver rides on 12-inch wheels. Braking duties are handled by 220 mm front and 180 mm rear disc brakes. With a ground clearance of 142 mm, the scooter weighs 126 kg, inclusive of the two swappable battery packs, each weighing around 10 kg.

Battery Swapping: Gogoro emphasizes swappable battery technology, promising a rapid 6-second swapping time. This facilitates gig workers, enhancing work efficiency and profitability with minimal downtime.

Powertrain Configuration: While the powertrain details for the Indian variant are yet to be revealed, the international model uses a liquid-cooled motor generating 7 kW (9.51 PS) of power and 26.6 Nm of torque.

Local Component Integration: Gogoro aims to maximize the use of locally sourced components to achieve a competitive price point for its scooters in India, contributing to lower ownership costs. Additionally, battery-swapping stations will be expanded through collaborations, starting with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

Gogoro's entry into India signals a new era for electric scooters, combining innovation with practicality and addressing the evolving needs of the Indian market. The CrossOver's focus on cargo utility positions it as a promising addition to India's electric mobility landscape. Stay tuned for the official launch and further updates.
