Mechanically, the 2021 Toyota Fortuner is expected to get similar engine-gearbox options which are presently being offered on the BS6-compliant model in India. It is available with two engine options: a 2.7-litre petrol engine and a 2.8-litre diesel engine. The 2.7-litre petrol engine is capable of producing 166 HP of maximum power along with 245 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel model, on the other hand, churns out 177 HP of power and 420 Nm of utmost torque. It gets paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is also an option for a six-speed automatic gearbox for both the engine options. However, the 4×4 drive system is only available in the diesel variant of the SUV. The automatic model of Toyota Fortuner diesel generates a slightly higher torque figure at 450 Nm.
