BS6 Maruti Suzuki Swift and WagonR Launched: Maruti Suzuki is the first mass-market brand to introduce a BS6-compliant petrol engine under the Swift and WagonR brand names. Both the cars share this 1.2L engine and thus, the fact is now confirmed that all cars using the 1197cc engine will shift soon to the BS6-compliant setup. However, advancement has resulted in a price hike among these models. Maruti had almost 9 months to reach this target as according to the government, all manufacturers will shift to the BS6-compliant emission norms before April 1, 2019. Apart from Maruti Suzuki, a few luxury car manufacturers are already selling cars with BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines. The price for the BS6 Maruti Swift falls between INR 5.14 lakh to INR 8.89 lakh. The BS6 WagonR is available from INR 5.10 lakh to INR 5.91 lakh. These values are ex-showroom Delhi. The BS4-complaint 1.0L engine in the Wagon R is priced between INR 4.34 lakh to INR 5.33 lakh. The reduction in total emissions was a big point of worry for the people as increasing levels of pollution would have resulted in more health-related problems. The shift from BS3 to BS6 norms was so quick for the Indian market that most brands were thinking this to be impossible in such a short period. However, the first step by Maruti Suzuki has guaranteed that other brands will soon follow them to offer cleaner cars before the start of 2020.
