Jeep Renegade SUV Confirmed! As per the latest details available, Jeep has officially confirmed that they will launch the Renegade SUV in India within next 2 years. The brand also confirmed that they would also be working on a sub 4-meter compact SUV to compete with Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport in India.
Jeep's compact SUV would be the 1st product to be priced under INR 10 lakhs in India. As far as Jeep Renegade is concerned, it would surely act as the real volume generator in the company lineup. They are expected to place the Renegade around INR 12-13 lakh (Ex-showroom), and it would be competing with the likes of the Hyundai Creta in India. Both SUVs will be localized to the maximum possible limit to price them aggressively.
India’s facility will also handle exports and local assembly as Jeep has already started manufacturing the Compass here. The production hub at Ranjangaon will manufacture RHD units and will export the same to nearby markets except China. Renegade is more like Mahindra Thar than being categorized as a Scorpio. In other words, it carries a design that is precious to some and totally out of order for others.
As even Thar comes in 4x2, not all customers consider these variant due to its strict styling. Renegade comes with almost square wheel arches, thick body cladding, typical Jeep style round headlights and super high bonnet design. Rear of the car matches its overall profile with square taillights, almost straight boot ending and sporty spoiler.
If this segment is considered, Renegade will be the widest and tallest option around its price. It purely depends upon Jeep for use of bigger 2.0L engine on Renegade. They can tune the same down to around 250 Nm but that would not be as feasible as the smaller 1.6L engine.
If plans of keeping the initial price under INR 13 lakh is strict, we can expect a petrol engine shared with any of the Fiat car in Jeep Renegade. All in all, it will bring goosebumps to cars ranging from Vitara Brezza to Renault Duster. Internationally, Jeep Renegade measures 4236 mm in length, 1805 mm in width and 1667 mm in height.
The wheelbase measures 2570 mm. This makes Renegade good for a nice competition to Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano. Honda BR-V also falls in the same league. Jeep can offer 4WD option on the top spec variant to give it an edge over rest of the compact SUVs available in the Indian market.
