According to a recent media report, Royal Enfield is planning to launch 15 new motorcycles in the Indian markets under its portfolio to establish itself on the top of the game once again. Even though the Chennai-based manufacturer’s popularity in the Indian motorcycle segment seems no bound, it has been adversely affected by the launch of similar products from the brands like Benelli, Jawa and Honda.
The brand has had a fair share of its demand in the markets though hasn’t been able to set the record straight from the past few months with its ageing portfolio. Royal Enfield currently rules the cruiser motorcycle segment with the likes of RE Bullet, Classic as well as the Meteor series though the brand has realised it isn’t enough to get ahead in the game anymore thus the new CEO Vinod Dasari has recently revealed his plan to launch new motorcycles under different engine displacement categories.
The brand is currently doing well in the 650cc segment with the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 while the adventure motorcycle segment also features the Himlayan 411 as one of the very best. The current motorcycle portfolio does not suffice to let the brand establish itself as the best retro motorcycle manufacturer while the speculated introduction of 15 new motorcycles under its portfolio might be the best hope considering the growth factor as well as in establishing a better fan base.
According to Simon Warburton, the brand’s Head of Product Development, the officials have been showcased around 15 new models which have been specifically designed by Mark Wells, Head of Product Strategy & Industrial Design, Royal Enfield. According to another Royal Enfield official, the current lockdown-like situation in most of the Indian states to curb COVID-19 hasn’t affected the financial health of the Chennai-based brand while they are ready to invest in new motorcycles for the forsake of a brighter future.
There has been no information revealed on the upcoming 15 new motorcycles though one can imagine the next-gen Classic 350 to be one of them. In addition to this, the upcoming portfolio will also feature a 650cc cruiser as well as an all-new Roadster and Bobber motorcycle. The brand has also filed patents for names like Sherpa, Hunter, Shotgun, and Flying Flea, more information on which is expected to be revealed soon.
