Can the MG Comet find a place in the market among players like Tata Tiago EV?

Comet has its own market but I don't see it competing with the Tiago EV seriously. People trust Tata more in India, they have a much stronger brand.

The Comet can definitely compete, I think. The Tiago is just an electrified version of a regular car, whereas the S1 offers something really different. The Comet's small size is a big plus for city dwellers.

I've driven them both and I'd say they are for different buyers. The Comet is perfect if you want a zippy little urban runabout and the Tiago feels more like a 'real' car. Both have room in the market.

What’s lacking is the fast charging that the Tiago EV has. The result is that it severely limits its practicality for anything beyond short city trips.

For me MG’s after sales service is still a question mark. I have more confidence in long term ownership thanks to Tata’s much larger network.

In fact, it's the Comet's secret weapon: its unique design. The more conventional Tiago doesn’t turn heads and get people talking, whereas this one does. It could compete on that free marketing.

India is a price king, and Comet is overpriced for what it offers. You get much more car for your money with the Tiago EV.
Is Tata Tiago’s infotainment system really user friendly or just flashy?
24 December 2024 12:59
For the price I find the Tiago's infotainment system pretty decent. It's slow, sure, but it works. Navigation and music are a lifesaver thanks to Android Auto integration.
Is Tata Tiago’s infotainment system really user friendly or just flashy?

I guess I'm just not that impressed with it, honestly, I think it's more flash than function. I have the touchscreen laggy and freezing up. Most of the time I just used a phone mount. Instead of crammed features, Tata should have concentrated on making it more reliable.

It's a mixed bag. It’s great when it’s working, but I’ve had issues with Android Auto connectivity. When it disconnects mid trip when you’re relying on it for navigation it’s annoying.

I think it is pretty good for a budget car. It’s not perfect, but remember what infotainment systems in this price range were like just a few years back? Tata at least is trying to give us modern features.

I actually like the system in the Tiago more than in some more expensive cars I've driven. It's simple and straight forward. Not everyone wants or needs a super complex infotainment system. Sometimes less is more.
How does the Tata Tiago ride on Indian roads when compared to its rivals?
24 December 2024 12:59
For the class, I've also found the Tiago's ride to be surprisingly good. It also rides over potholes and speed bumps better than my friends Maruti, which is much harsher. It is perfect for city drive.

It’s an okay ride, nothing special. On really bad roads it can get a bit bouncy. Hyundai has done a better job at the suspension tuning in their small cars, I think.

The slightly firmer ride of the Tiago, actually, is what I prefer. On highways, it feels more planted than some of its softer sproinged rivals. It's a matter of preference.

Decent ride quality, but I would have liked Tata to go for 15 inchers instead of 14. The bigger wheels of the top variant are greatly noticed in how it smooths out little road inequalities.

If you've been following us, you know that I have driven both the Tiago and the Tiago NRG, both of which being relatively soft suspension cars, the NRG has slightly more ground clearance and tweaked suspension that make for a better car for rougher roads. If good ride quality is at the top of your priority list, it may be worth the extra price to get the NRG.
Can tall passengers fit into the Tata Tiago's cabin space and comfort?
24 December 2024 12:59
As a 6-footer, the Tiago is surprisingly comfortable to drive. There is enough back in the seat, and the steering adjusts well. It’s a little tight in the rear seat for me, but short trips are fine.
