Can the MG Comet find a place in the market among players like Tata Tiago EV?
Entry of MG Comet into affordable electric vehicle space has some putting doubts on the car's ability to compete with more established models like Tata Tiago EV. These two vehicles are designed for urban commuters who want eco friendly transport but the two concept vehicles take different approaches on the design, features and price strategy. Tata’s strong brand presence in India and more conventional looks on the Tiago EV, while the Comet is a unique value proposition with its ultra compact size and distinct styling. This competition mirrors broader developments in India's maturing EV market, such as the question of what size and range should city focused electric cars have, the value of brand loyalty versus innovation, and the impact of pricing on EV uptake. It also delves into questions of after sales support, charging infrastructure backing, and how long do you expect a relatively new entrant like MG to last compared to existing homegrown brands.

India is a price king, and Comet is overpriced for what it offers. You get much more car for your money with the Tiago EV.

In fact, it's the Comet's secret weapon: its unique design. The more conventional Tiago doesn’t turn heads and get people talking, whereas this one does. It could compete on that free marketing.

For me MG’s after sales service is still a question mark. I have more confidence in long term ownership thanks to Tata’s much larger network.

What’s lacking is the fast charging that the Tiago EV has. The result is that it severely limits its practicality for anything beyond short city trips.

I've driven them both and I'd say they are for different buyers. The Comet is perfect if you want a zippy little urban runabout and the Tiago feels more like a 'real' car. Both have room in the market.

The Comet can definitely compete, I think. The Tiago is just an electrified version of a regular car, whereas the S1 offers something really different. The Comet's small size is a big plus for city dwellers.

Comet has its own market but I don't see it competing with the Tiago EV seriously. People trust Tata more in India, they have a much stronger brand.
