Will the Darkstar design be too conservative for the adventure bike market?
Standard street motorcycles don't compare to the rugged designs you see on most adventure bikes. Concern is that Bajaj, famed for more conventional styling, may take the safe route with the Darkstar's design. Leaked images and speculation have suggested that it might be too similar to Pulsar series, and not excite adventure bike fans who are attracted to more aggressive, off road styled looks. And yet a more subdued design could also be attractive to riders who are seeking ADV capabilities without the over the top styling of some competitors. Design will be key in placing the Darkstar in the market and draw in buyers wanting a bike that's different to the rest.
I’m hoping they go bold with design. If you’re going to do ADV bikes, they should look the part, not like a Pulsar with a high fender.
In fact, conservative styling might just work. Not everyone wants a bike that shouts "look at me." all the time.
Bajaj has to find a middle ground. But it'll be too wild, and it'll scare off commuters. Too tame and the ADV crowd will ignore it.
I fear it might end up being a cheap Multistrada knockoff. Bajaj should concentrate on developing their own unique ADV identity.
I think the leaked images look pretty good. Not going overboard with the ADV cues, but it's got enough. Sometimes subtle is better.
Functionality is higher than design. Hardcore ADV riders won’t mind if it looks a bit plain, as long as it performs well off road.
The design should involve some risks. Bajaj needs to stand out to make an impact in the ADV market which is getting crowded.
