Mahindra Major's production was halted to make way for the new generation of Mahindra all terrain vehicles in India. The Mahindra Thar was the successor to the Major, improving on all the missing facilities of a modern Jeep. The Major came with a DI turbo diesel engine which produced very less power as compared to the modern day cars whereas the new Thar comes with a 2498 cc, CRDe engine producing 105 BHP and 247 NM of torque. It also features power steering which was missing in the Major. The manual shift on fly 4-wheel drive system makes it more effective on every terrain whereas the Major lacked most of the technological advancements of today. Buying a new Thar is the only option to go for a Mahindra Jeep as the Major was discontinued a long time back.
