What is the real world rideability of Pulsar SS400 against KTM RC 390?
Lots of engine spec sheets and track times means little to the majority of riders who want to know how a bike rides in everyday situations. The KTM RC 390 is quite aggressive in its riding position and its power delivery is peaky, something that many riders may find difficult in urban environment. As a Bajaj product, the Pulsar SS400 might be more relaxed to ride. Low speed manoeuvrability, easy maintenance, comfort in long rides are the factors that decide usage of a day to day basis. Moreover, many Indian riders are concerned about the heat management of both bikes in stop and go traffic. Given both bikes aim at overlapping segments, how does it feel to live with either of them on a daily basis?
In the city traffic, the SS400 is likely to be more forgiving. Being familiar with the Indian market, Bajaj will have a more upright seating position and smoother power delivery compared to the RC 390.
KTM all the way! The RC 390 is more fun even in the city because of its aggressive nature. After a while, you will not want to ride anything else.
Aside from that, it really depends on your riding style. The RC 390 is razor sharp if you are into spirited riding. However, the SS400 could be the more relaxed commute.
Don't underestimate the RC 390's practicality. You can still drive it in the city, but yes, it is sporty. It might be more comfortable in the SS400, but it might be a tad uninspiring next to it.
The SS400 might have a slight advantage in heat management. Given that Bajaj has more experience with Indian conditions, it is likely to run cooler in traffic than the KTM.
I don't think so. However, the riding styles of the SS400 and Dominar 400 are different. The SS400 will be the choice for sport bike enthusiasts, but if you want a more versatile machine, then the Dominar will be your pick.
In fact, it could even increase the sales of Dominar. However, the SS400 will help Bajaj get more attention towards its 400 cc lineup and some people who find it to be too sporty can go for the Dominar instead.
The real question is, will KTM be able to sell at least the same number of bikes as before the SS400 came out? It may be that Bajaj is using it to retain customers within its own brand rather than losing them to KTM.
I believe they will coexist just fine. See how Honda handles the CBR and CB series. Different strokes for different folks!
The Bajaj marketing team will have a problem with this. Both will really have to work hard to differentiate the two models and justify the existence of both in the lineup.
The SS400 launch might make the Dominar obsolete and hence, the bike might need a refresh. The new kid on the block may actually steal its thunder because it has been around for a while.
