Was discontinuing the Zen Estilo a mistake by Maruti?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
Maruti Suzuki discontinued the Zen Estilo in 2015, after a production run of about nine years. The decision came as the company was updating its product lineup and introducing new models like the Celerio. The Estilo, despite its practicality and spacious interior, had been facing increasing competition in the compact car segment. Its discontinuation sparked discussions among car enthusiasts and industry observers about whether Maruti was making the right move. Some argued that the Estilo still had potential in the market, especially given its established brand name and loyal customer base. Others felt that its design had become outdated and that Maruti needed to move on to more modern offerings. The debate often touches on topics like brand legacy, product lifecycle management, and the evolving preferences of Indian car buyers. The question of whether discontinuing the Estilo was a strategic misstep or a necessary evolution for Maruti continues to be a point of discussion in automotive circles.

They probably had sales data we don't. If it wasn't selling well, discontinuing was the smart move.

I miss the Estilo. None of Maruti's current small cars have quite the same mix of space and affordability.

It was the right call. Maruti needed to modernize its lineup, and the Estilo was holding them back.

Discontinuing it was fine, but they should have kept the 'Zen' name alive somehow. It had such brand value.

Not a mistake, but they should have replaced it with something similar. There's still a market for practical, spacious small cars.

Big mistake. The Estilo had a unique position in the market that Maruti hasn't really filled since.

I think it was time. The design was getting old, and newer models like the Celerio were more appealing.
