Is the Chetak Premium outdated because it doesn’t have a touchscreen?
The Bajaj Chetak Premium has a 5-inch color TFT screen as opposed to a touchscreen display that is becoming a norm in new electric scooters. Bajaj says this was done to keep costs down and keep the unit alive. But that has caused a debate among potential buyers and tech enthusiasts. They argue that a non touchscreen interface feels dated and less intuitive, compared to competitors who offer touchscreen displays with more interactive features. Some enjoy the simplicity and durability of a traditional display, worried about the reliability of a touchscreen in different weather conditions and its long term usability. It also touches on overall user experience, ease of navigating menus, and if a commuter scooter really needs a touchscreen at all.
Not at all! In fact, I like physical buttons. Touch screens get all smudgy and are harder to use with gloves, and these aren't.
It’s a little bit behind the times. To be frank, touchscreens are just more intuitive, especially if you were talking about navigation.
I thought I'd miss having a touchscreen but it's fine. It's simple enough that you don't really need one.
It's not as flashy as the competition but that could be a good thing. The less that can go wrong in the long run.
I'm torn. The screen is nice but it’s clunky with buttons scrolling through menus compared to my phone.
A premium scooter should have a touchscreen. It's 2025, not 2015!
I actually respect Bajaj for not going the trend way. And a good non touch interface can be just as functional and more reliable.
