Is the Bolero Neo really an SUV or just another fancy matchbox on wheels?
The Bolero Neo has been marketed as a rugged and capable SUV, but there’s a question mark on whether it lives up to that image. Some call it the ultimate off road vehicle and praise its durability, others say it's just a boxy design with limited features. Traditional SUV credentials are suggested by the vehicle's body on frame construction and rear wheel drive, but compact size and urban friendly design elements blur the lines. This question arises from whether the Bolero Neo actually deserves the SUV tag or if it is actually a crossover trying to cash in on the rugged reputation of the Bolero. It also deals with the wider debate of what actually constitutes a 'real' SUV in today's market, when the word is often bandied about as a marketing term.
It's definitely a true SUV! It has proper off road chops thanks to the body on frame construction and rear wheel drive setup. Mine have handled some pretty tough terrain and I have yet to have an issue.
Come on, it's 2024! The whole true SUV debate is over. The Neo is a modern read on ruggedness with urban practicality. That's exactly what most people need these days.
I would say it's more of a crossover masquerading as an SUV. It’s capable, yes, but it’s not terribly refined or feature packed for the money. It's just stuck in a weird middle ground.
I owned both a classic Bolero and the Neo and it's a different beast. It's not as comfortable or easy to live with daily, but it still hasn't lost that Bolero toughness. It has evolved, not 'fancified'.
Most people buying SUVs will never take them off road, so let’s be real. What the Neo gives you is the look and feel of an SUV with better city manners. That's a win in my book.
