Is Tata Intra's infotainment system too much for a commercial vehicle?
by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
Commercial vehicles are not known for offering touchscreen infotainment system, but the Tata Intra series (V30 and V70) comes with one. Users and industry observers have debated the necessity and practicality of this feature in a work oriented vehicle. Supporters say it improves driver comfort and productivity, providing functions such as navigation and hands free calling. But critics dismiss it as an unnecessary luxury that will only add to the cost of the vehicle and possibly divert drivers' attention at the wheel. The conversation expands to larger questions around what the changing expectations are for commercial vehicles and if features commonly reserved for passenger cars are quickly becoming the new standard in this segment. It makes points as it relates to driver retention, vehicle resale value, and the functionality versus functional balance for work vehicles.

Real talk, most drivers are going to use their phones anyway. It just serves as a gimmick to justify a higher price on the infotainment system.

I'm on the fence. But I really think that navigation feature could be useful for deliveries, but I worry drivers will get distracted by it.

Driver retention is all it’s about. Anything that makes a good driver's job more comfortable is a plus in my book because good drivers are hard to find.

The repair costs worry me, but the infotainment system is fine. If your touchscreens break, they can be expensive to replace.

I think Tata did the smart thing. This makes the Intra more attractive to owner operators who use the vehicle for personal use too.

I think that’s a waste of money. Commercial vehicles should be all about function, not fancy gadgets. Instead of spending that money on better suspension or payload capacity, put it towards better suspension or payload capacity.

It's not overkill at all. Because drivers spend hours sitting in these vehicles, comfort and convenience features are key for a driver’s well being and productivity.
