Does the F250's headlight suffice for night riding on dark country roads?
While not required by law, lighting is a very important safety feature to have when you’re riding your motorcycle at night or in low visibility. The Bajaj Pulsar F250 has LED projector headlamp which is considered better than the halogen bulbs. In general, LED lights are brighter and more power efficient. But the effectiveness of a headlight is more than just lumens — beam pattern, spread, and color temperature all matter in real life visibility. LED headlights are great for illumining directly in front of the bike, but some riders find that they don't have the wider spread needed for seeing hazards on the sides of rural roads. For riders who travel on unlit roads, the transition from low to high beam, and the utility of the high beam for long distance visibility, are also important.
The F250’s headlight is pretty good for night riding, I’ve found. It has a nice, wide spread and the LED is bright. I think the halogen on my old bike is definitely better, though.
It’s not great for really dark roads, but okay. The high beam isn’t as powerful as I’d like for highway speeds, but the low beam is fine for the city.
In fact, I actually like it better than some more expensive bikes I have ridden. It has a nice, defined cutoff that doesn’t blind oncoming traffic. It could be brighter, but it’s more than adequate.
The stock headlight is fine, but I tacked on some auxiliary lights to see a bit better on rural roads. It’s a huge difference, especially for spotting animals.
For the bike's intended use, I think it's just fine. For occasional use it’s great, but if you’re doing a lot of night riding on pitch black roads, you might want something more powerful.
It's a bit too cool for my taste with the color temperature of the LED. In long night rides it can cause eye strain. I’m thinking of switching to a warmer LED bulb.
The headlight on the F250 is like daylight compared to one that comes from a Royal Enfield! Even on dark country roads, it's more than enough for my needs.
It's good, but not great. It could be better optimized. I'm in the habit of using high beam more often than is good for oncoming traffic.
