I believe it works just fine for what it is intended for. It is not for people expecting luxury.

The stock seat is fine for a few hours, but after that, my butt starts to complain. Touring definitely warrants an aftermarket option.

In fact, I quite like the stock seat. Did a 500-mile day with no issue. Everyone's different, though.

The R's seat is definitely more off-road focused and less comfy on longer highway stretches. If you do most of your riding on the road, consider swapping it.

I threw an Airhawk cushion on the stock seat, and now it’s perfect for long days. Also cheaper than a whole new seat.

The KTM's seat is a plank compared to my old BMW. It's not terrible, not great for iron butt types.

I replaced mine with a Seat Concepts kit. Long rides are a night-and-day difference. The best upgrade I've made to the bike.

The stock seat locks you into one position, and that shape of the seat is not comfortable over time. A lot of help comes from an aftermarket seat with a flatter profile.

Off-road, the standard 390 Adventure is more capable. With that extra ground clearance, ruts and rocks are no problem.

In fact, the X's lower height actually assists in tight, technical off-road sections. The tricky spots are easier to paddle through.

I think KTM hit a good balance. Now more people can enjoy the X without feeling intimidated, as the X is still plenty capable off road.

Being a taller rider, I prefer the higher stance of the standard model. When standing on the pegs, it feels more natural.
