Is the Hyundai Kona Electric one of the best electric cars on the market?
02 January 2025 12:05
As a Kona EV owner, I’d say it’s a solid choice but not mind blowing. Though there's a pretty fair amount of intrigue here, it's not without its negatives – the interior is kind of low rent and the infotainment system is ancient. But for the price you’d be hard pressed to beat the range.
How has winter driving and range loss been on the Kona Electric?
02 January 2025 12:05
In fact, I actually prefer winter driving in my Kona EV than my old gas car. Its instant torque and low center of gravity make it feel really stable on snowy roads. There is range loss, but it’s predictable and easy to plan around.
Is the Kona Electric’s lack of frunk a deal breaker?
02 January 2025 12:05
People obsess too much about frunks, I think. They’re nice to have, sure, but the Kona is still plenty practical without them. I’d rather pay less for better efficiency than pay more for a frunk I would rarely use.
The Kona Electric's infotainment system? How does this compare to newer EVs?
02 January 2025 12:05
In my opinion, the Kona's biggest weakness is probably the infotainment. It really feels dated compared to a Polestar, or even the newer Hyundai models. It’s a big miss that there are no over the air updates.
Is the Kona Electric's relatively slow DC fast charging a road trip killer?
02 January 2025 12:05
That said, as someone who road trips a lot, it’s definitely a limitation. It's not as bad as some people make it sound. The Kona can still do 75 kW pretty consistently, better than some EVs that quickly throttle down. It takes good planning.
