Is the Kona Electric’s lack of frunk a deal breaker?

Front trunks, or 'frunks,' are common in many electric vehicles, especially those created on dedicated EV platforms. Since the Kona Electric is based on an ICE vehicle platform, it doesn’t have this feature. While some EV enthusiasts would have you believe that a frunk is an essential part of the electric car experience, adding extra practicality and storage options, others are more skeptical. Some think it's not a big deal, especially for a compact SUV. It's generated debate about how practical the Kona really is and whether Hyundai could have done more to make the EV version more practical. Is it a deal breaker, from the point of view of potential buyers, that there is no frunk? Or just a small inconvenience?

To be honest, I actually don't miss having a frunk. My needs are small enough that the Kona's regular trunk will do just fine, and I'd rather have more cabin space than a little front storage area.

It is disappointing, but not a deal breaker. Having a frunk is really useful to store charging cables or small things you want to keep hidden. This feels like a missed opportunity for Hyundai.

I had imagined that I would care about not having a frunk but after having the Kona for a while I don't really. In fact, most of my needs are more practical done using the under floor storage in the trunk.

I do miss having a frunk, as someone who came from a Tesla. Groceries or wet gear was great in it. One thing the Kona lacks, however, does make it feel less 'EV-like' in some ways.

People obsess too much about frunks, I think. They’re nice to have, sure, but the Kona is still plenty practical without them. I’d rather pay less for better efficiency than pay more for a frunk I would rarely use.
