How does the Dominar 400's dual channel ABS system work in the real world of riding?

I’ve ridden both with and without ABS, and I’d say the Dominar’s system is pretty good. It’s there when you need it but doesn’t get in the way when you’re riding spiritedly. It won't perform miracles, though.

It’s good with a pillion and luggage, which is important for touring. I did some fully loaded emergency stops and it kept everything stable. It's not perfect but it's more than enough for the price.
Is Bajaj Dominar 400 just a marketing gimmick or really a power cruiser?
29 January 2025 08:14
It's definitely more the sports tourer than it is a cruiser. The engine character is more rev happy than torquey and the riding position is too aggressive. It's not necessarily a bad thing, though - it's great for carving corners and is still comfy enough for longer rides.

I think that it was a clever marketing move by Bajaj. What they've done is make a bike that appeals to people who want the idea of a cruiser but don't want to give up any performance. That's not a pure anything, but it's a strength.

I'm a Dominar owner, and it's a bit of both. It’s not a traditional cruiser but it does give you a more relaxed ride than most sport bikes. Even if that wasn't 100% accurate, it's a label that helps it stand out in a crowded market.

It's just a gimmick. Unlike real cruisers, forward set footpegs and a laid back riding position. The Dominar is nothing but a naked bike with a few cruiser inspired styling cues. Bajaj should have taken one side or the other.

We seem to put too much stock in labels. The Dominar is in a category of its own, it is a comfortable and powerful bike that works just as well on the city as it does on the touring run. Does it matter if it neatly falls into a particular category?
How does the Dominar 400 fare on long touring rides as opposed to purpose built tourers?

I have done a 1000km trip on my Dominar and surprisingly comfortable it was. Great for highway cruising because the upright seating position and smooth engine. It’s not as plush as a full on tourer, but it’s a hell of a lot more versatile day to day.

On long rides, the lack of wind protection is a big problem. After a few hours on the highway you really feel it. A good aftermarket windscreen does help, but it’s not ideal compared to a proper touring bike.

Having owned both a Dominar and a Royal Enfield Himalayan, I feel the Dominar is actually better for tarmac touring. At high speeds it's more stable, and the engine isn't as stressed. Obviously the Himalayan wins off road, but for pure highway miles, I prefer the Dominar.

It's all about expectations. Of course it falls short if you’re comparing it to a Honda Gold Wing. For its price point and what it was made for, it’s a great tourer. The trick is to buy some decent luggage and perhaps a few ergonomic mods.

Instead, I think the Dominar makes for a good weekend tourer and not really a cross country machine. For 2–3 day trips it’s perfect but if you’re going longer you’ll miss the creature comforts of a dedicated touring bike.
Is the Dominar 400’s build quality worth the price it commands in comparison to rivals?
29 January 2025 08:14
The Dominar’s build quality is actually pretty impressive for the price. The paint job is good, the components feel pretty well put together, and the frame feels solid. It’s not a premium bike, but it’s a step up from budget bikes.

I have had my Dominar for two years and the quality has been good. No major issues, just regular maintenance. Of course, the plastics on some of the bikes feel a little cheap compared to more expensive bikes. You get the features, but it’s a trade off.

I was skeptical about the Dominar’s quality because I came from a KTM. But I've been pleasantly surprised. It’s not as premium feeling, but in my experience it’s far more reliable. Easier to maintain and less finicky electronics.

For the price, it’s okay build quality, but not great. The switchgear and mirrors feel cheap and there's been rust on some components. You’re not paying for top notch fit and finish, you’re paying for the engine and the features.

I think for the price people expect too much. For the money, the Dominar offers a lot of bike and the all round quality is good enough for most riders. But if you want premium quality build, you're going to have to pay a lot more.
