It's a mixed bag. It’s great for learning, because parts are cheap and widely available. Some parts feel over engineered for a 100cc bike on the other. For instance, the DTS-i system is tricky for newbies. However, as a whole, it isn't a bad place to begin.

It's actually a good one for beginners. 4-gear bikes are simpler than 5-gear bikes and the air cooled engine is simpler than the liquid cooled ones. It’s also common, so you can easily find experienced mechanics to give you tips or bail you out if you get stuck.

I say for someone who learned mechanics on a Discover 100 4G, it's pretty good. The only annoying thing is the amount of plastic bodywork you have to take off for some jobs. It teaches you patience and organization, which are essential skills for any mechanic, as well.

The one big advantage is how common these bikes are. Often you can find dirt cheap non running examples to practice on without worrying about screwing up your daily rider. Really great way to learn troubleshooting and major repairs without the pressure.

I think I would learn better elsewhere. There are some quirks to the Discover that will frustrate beginners. Better bet would be something like a Honda CB Shine or TVS Star City, ideally, they're just as common but not as complicated.

It is great on fuel but I found the Discover 100 4G to be lacking in comfort for long delivery shifts. After a few hours the seat becomes uncomfortable and the suspension is not so great on bumpy roads. With heavy orders, I ended up switching to a scooter with a flatter footboard for easier balance.

It’s not ideal, but it’s a good option. The huge problem is the lack of storage – you’ll definitely need to get a good delivery box. The headlight isn't so great for night deliveries, either. If you’re just getting started and want to keep costs low, it’ll do the job.

In fact, I actually prefer the Discover 100 4G for deliveries over scooters. With the higher ground clearance, the bad roads are a lifesaver and the geared transmission has better control in stop and go traffic. And it’s not as likely to get knocked over in crowded parking spots as top heavy scooters.

It’s been reliable for me, but you need to keep on top of maintenance. All the start stop riding means the chain needs frequent adjustment. Parts are cheap and most local mechanics can fix it. Just budget for more servicing than you would normally use.

It gets great fuel efficiency, but I hate the small tank for long shifts. My tank is refueling far too often. Overall though, if you’re doing it part time, it’s a cost effective option. If you are a full timer, you may want something with a little more power and features.

Unexpected advantage: it's so common nobody even noticed. Anymore, when I used a fancier bike, I was always worried about theft during deliveries. The Discover lets me just focus on the job without having to constantly look over my shoulder.

We constantly take our Discover 100 4G on the weekend trips with my girlfriend. For both of us, it’s surprisingly comfortable, even on 2-3 hour rides. The long seat really helps. Yes, it's not the fastest, however, with two people, it will get the job done and sip fuel even with the extra weight.

I wouldn't recommend it for regular two up riding. It’s strained on inclines and the brakes aren’t confidence inspiring with two people. After a few scary moments on highway rides we ended up upgrading to a 150cc bike. For short city trips it’s fine, but anything more than that is pushing it.

It's all about expectations. But if you're fine with going easy and ain’t worried about using the fast lane, then the Discover 100 4G can make for a great, value for money choice, as long as we're talking about couples. It's been great, we've done plenty of scenic rides. Expect to have a hard time keeping up with bigger bikes on the highway, though.

With a few mods we've made it work. I upgraded the rear suspension, added a backrest for the pillion, and put on slightly wider tires. The comfort and stability being plus is its big difference. Still not ideal for long highway stretches, but perfect for exploring nearby towns and villages.

For short trips, the Discover 100 4G is okay as a pillion rider, but anything over an hour is too much. There's a bit of a high footpeg and you feel every bump. If you’re on a tight budget it’s fine, but I’d save up for something with better suspension and a more relaxed riding position.

That really depends on your combined weight. We are both pretty light, so we don't have problems. And when I ride with my heavier friend the bike definitely struggles on hills. Think about the terrain you’ll be riding on and what body type you have.

Ours are used for two up daily commuting and have been great. It was super fuel efficient even with the two of us, and nimble enough to weave through traffic. All I did was adjust the tire pressure and get used to the slightly different handling. It's more than adequate for couples, and more than adequate for city use.

Having the Discover 100 4G for two years now as a college student, I think it's definitely worth it. It’s insane mileage, I hardly spend anything on fuel compared to my friends with bigger bikes. It’s also super easy to get around in crazy campus traffic. It’s not the flashiest ride, but it’s reliable.
