Is the Bajaj Discover 100 4G really worthy of the hype for college students?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
It seems that the Discover 100 4G is a popular choice for college kids looking for their first bike. Touraj Ghayour, the product planning manager for Ford, describes it as an 'affordable, fuel efficient option with a decent level of features for the price.' But is it a good investment for those on a budget? Both say it’s perfect for campus life, and others say there are better alternatives. Let’s talk about reliability over the long term, the cost of maintenance, resale value, and how it holds up to daily student use. Do the initial merits of affordability make up for potential downsides? Is it less ideal for students than seems, and is there something hidden that makes it more expensive for students? Let us know what you think of the Discover 100 4G as a college rider and if it lives up to the hype.

I'd say it's overhyped. Yes, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for. At higher speeds, the vibrations are annoying, and the seat is uncomfortable at longer ride. If you can stretch your budget a bit though, there are much better options out there that will provide you more joy in the long run.

It’s not winning any beauty contests, let’s be real. However, for the price, you get a reliable workhorse that you can’t go wrong with. Mine has 30,000 km on it with very few problems. If you just keep up with regular maintenance, it will serve you well throughout your college years.

It’s real hype, but with caveats. It’s great for short commutes and city riding but not for the highways. If you’re far from your college or you plan on doing lots of long rides, you might want to look elsewhere. It's a champ for campus life and nearby internships, however.

I think it is a great starter bike for college students. It’s a basic motorcycle maintenance course that won’t break the bank. And the low cost means you won't be so upset if it gets a few dings in the college parking lot. After graduation, it’s a good stepping stone before upgrading to something fancier.

That really is a factor of your priorities. So if what you’re looking for is pure practicality and fuel efficiency, the Discover 100 4G has it all. If you want something with a bit more oomph or style, however, you might be disappointed. It’s a solid commuter, but it won’t win you any races or turn heads.

I disagree. The Discover 100 4G has been nothing but trouble on my part. It’s cheap build quality, and I’ve had to put up with constant niggles. The service centers are a nightmare as well. If only I had saved a bit more money and gone for a Honda or TVS. It’s not worth the headache in the long run, but the initial savings are great.

Having the Discover 100 4G for two years now as a college student, I think it's definitely worth it. It’s insane mileage, I hardly spend anything on fuel compared to my friends with bigger bikes. It’s also super easy to get around in crazy campus traffic. It’s not the flashiest ride, but it’s reliable.
