General information and overview

I consider the 2025 Volvo XC60 a midsize luxury SUV blending safety, comfort, and subtlety for Indian buyers. Measuring around 4.7m long, it offers generous rear legroom, headroom, and plush cushioning for three passengers, enhanced by a panoramic sunroof and individual rear AC vents. Power comes from a refined 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid (250hp, 360Nm) with 8-speed auto and AWD, prioritizing smooth cruising over sportiness. Key highlights include a 11.2-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital cluster, 360-camera, and full ADAS suite like Pilot Assist for effortless traffic handling. Suspension balances pothole absorption with highway stability, though low-speed bumps feel mildly. Its amorphous design stands out discreetly, interior quality impresses with minimalistic layout, and top speed limit at 180kmph suits local needs. Lacking paddle shifters and some physical buttons, it shines for family hauls where safety ratings, serene cabin, and reliability tip the buying scale.

The 2025 Volvo XC60 facelift sold in India keeps the same core architecture: a 2.0‑litre turbocharged petrol with a 48V mild‑hybrid system, an 8‑speed automatic and AWD, updated to meet local fuel specifications and offering a smoother, more compliant power delivery than before. The interior benefits from a larger centre touchscreen and retains Volvo’s calm, airy cabin layout, excellent seat comfort for long distances, plentiful rear legroom for a mid‑sizer and a panoramic sunroof and four‑zone climate controls on higher trims. Safety and ADAS remain standout features with refinements to Pilot Assist, adaptive cruise and collision mitigation systems that suit Indian traffic scenarios. The chassis is tuned for comfort with steel springs rather than air suspension, so it soaks up bad roads superbly but isn’t a sporty handler; infotainment integration and physical control layout may feel different to buyers used to German rivals. Overall the XC60 offers understated Scandinavian luxury, strong safety tech and comfortable long‑distance refinement — attributes that make it very appealing if you prioritise comfort, safety and exclusivity in India.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the 2025 Volvo XC60 facelift to be a refined midsize luxury SUV that excels in delivering understated Scandinavian luxury tailored for Indian roads. With its spacious, airy cabin boasting plush seats perfect for long-distance comfort, a larger 11.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, and four-zone climate control, it creates a serene environment for family drives. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid engine producing 250hp and 360Nm offers smooth, linear power delivery through an 8-speed automatic and AWD, ideal for highways where it cruises stably at triple-digit speeds. Ride comfort shines with a soft suspension that absorbs potholes and bad roads effectively, though sharp bumps transmit some movement. Safety is unmatched with refined Pilot Assist ADAS, including adaptive cruise, lane keep, blind-spot monitoring, and collision avoidance, all capped at 180kmph practically for India. While not thrilling to drive and pricier with options, its seamless powertrain, E20 compliance, and premium feel make it a smart buy over flashier rivals like BMW X3 or Mercedes GLC for those prioritizing comfort, safety, and rarity in the segment.

I find the 2025 Volvo XC60 to be a compelling choice if you value calm, comfort and safety over flash and theatrics; the facelift sharpens the cabin tech with a larger touchscreen and retains the XC60’s excellent seats and spacious feel, while the reworked 2.0‑litre mild‑hybrid petrol with an 8‑speed auto and AWD delivers smooth, linear performance that suits relaxed, long‑distance driving rather than sporty theatrics. The ride prioritises isolation from poor Indian roads and the suspension soaks up undulations well, though it’s tuned softly so body motions are noticeable over sharp inputs and you won’t get an engaging, driver‑focused experience. Volvo’s strong ADAS suite and 360° visibility add real ownership comfort in Indian traffic, and the cabin’s Scandinavian understatement feels premium and durable. Pricing and limited option packaging remain the XC60’s main drawbacks in India, but if you want a plush, safe, well‑built mid‑size luxury SUV that’s rare and quietly premium, this is a vehicle I’d seriously consider.

Pricing details and changes

I see the 2025 Volvo XC60 positioned at an ex-showroom price starting around Rs 68.50 lakh for the base Plus variant, escalating to Rs 69.65 lakh for the top Ultima trim in major cities like Mumbai and Delhi, reflecting its premium positioning in India's luxury SUV market. On-road prices add insurance, RTO registration, and taxes, pushing it to approximately Rs 78-82 lakh depending on location— for instance, Rs 79.5 lakh on-road in Delhi—due to high import duties on its CKD assembly. This pricing undercuts direct rivals like the BMW X3 (Rs 75 lakh ex-showroom) slightly but commands a premium over homegrown options, justified by Volvo's safety legacy and mild-hybrid efficiency. Ownership costs remain reasonable with low maintenance around Rs 50,000 annually and strong resale value, but optional packs like Plus at extra Rs 1.5-2 lakh inflate the bill. For buyers, this represents value in a segment where running costs matter less than the tangible luxury and peace of mind it delivers on chaotic Indian roads.
December 17, 2025
I checked recent India launch reporting and mainstream listings that place the Volvo XC60 mild‑hybrid in the ballpark of Rs. 65.9 lakh (ex‑showroom) for the available top variant at launch, with retail prices rising substantially once options, taxes and state variations are included. On‑road costs in major metros typically push the landed price toward the low to mid‑70s lakh range depending on insurer choice, registration fees and any optional packs; in some configurations and cities the on‑road figure can approach the high‑70s lakh bracket if you add extended warranties or dealer options. I see the XC60 positioned above mainstream premium rivals on price but slightly undercutting some fully loaded German alternatives when optioned conservatively. My view is that the XC60’s value proposition in India rests on its safety credentials, comfort and distinctiveness — you pay a premium for those traits and the relative rarity of the badge here, so budget realistically for the on‑road price and factory options rather than relying solely on ex‑showroom numbers.

Fuel efficiency information

I note the XC60's mild-hybrid 2.0L turbo-petrol delivers 12-14kmpl in mixed Indian conditions, stretching to 15-16kmpl on highways with gentle driving, thanks to the 48V system's efficiency and E20 compatibility. Running costs stay manageable at Rs 12-15 per km with current fuel prices, making it viable for urban-highway use despite petrol thirst—opt for it if comfort trumps absolute economy in luxury.
December 17, 2025
The XC60’s 2.0‑litre mild‑hybrid petrol is tuned more for refinement than economy; official India fuel‑efficiency figures are modest and real‑world urban figures are likely to be in the mid‑teens kmpl while highway cruising can see low‑to‑mid‑teens to around 15–16 kmpl depending on driving style and load. If running costs and high urban fuel consumption are major priorities for you, I’d weigh a diesel (if available) or a plug‑in/electric alternative more heavily, but for mixed city‑highway use the mild‑hybrid XC60 delivers acceptable economy for its segment given its performance and AWD hardware.
