Toyota has announced that it will be discontinuing the Etios Liva soon, marking the end of an era for this entry-level hatchback in the Indian market. The Etios Liva was known for its spacious cabin, comfortable seating, and fuel-efficient engines. I believe this move is a strategic decision to focus on more modern and competitive models.

In 2018, Toyota introduced a limited edition of the Etios Liva with red accents, aiming to boost sales and attract more buyers. This limited edition featured cosmetic updates and was priced competitively. I think this was a good attempt to revamp the model, but it ultimately couldnt save it from being phased out.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the updated Etios and Etios Liva in 2013, featuring a refreshed exterior design with a redesigned grille, new indicators on side view mirrors, and a classic grey paint option. The interiors also got a makeover with new fabrics, a 2 Din audio system, and improved AC controls. I believe these updates helped give the model a more youthful and trendy look, but it still lagged behind in terms of modern features.

The Etios Liva TRD Sportivo, introduced in 2013, was a variant designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and featured a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 90 PS, ABS, dual airbags, and 15-inch smoked alloys. This variant was aimed at the younger demographic and added a sporty edge to the lineup. I think this was a great move to appeal to a different segment of buyers, but it didnt quite achieve the desired impact.

When the Etios Liva was first launched in June 2011, it was part of Toyotas global plan to introduce vehicles designed for emerging markets. The car was praised for its standard safety features, including dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. I believe the emphasis on safety was a significant selling point, but the models overall appeal was limited by its lackluster styling and missing modern features.
