Tata Tiago Diesel XT (O)

The Tata Tiago is a compact hatchback that has been a staple in the Indian market since its launch in 2016. With its recent updates, it now complies with BS6 emission norms and offers a range of features that enhance comfort and convenience. The car is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, available with both manual and automated manual transmissions. The interior is practical, with a digital instrument cluster, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and features like automatic climate control and a cooled glovebox. The Tiago also boasts a 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP, making it a safe and reliable choice. Its well-tuned suspension ensures a comfortable ride, and the cars design and build quality are notable in its segment. Despite some minor issues with the gearbox and AC performance, the Tiago remains a solid option for those seeking a balanced blend of safety, features, and affordability.

The Tata Tiago, specifically the diesel XT variant, which is no longer available due to the discontinuation of the diesel engine with the BS6 update, was a compelling option in its time. It offered a good balance of city and highway driving capabilities, with enough low-end torque to navigate urban traffic and sufficient power for highway cruises. However, the diesel engines refinement and the cars overall long-term reliability were areas that needed improvement. The suspension was well-tuned, handling potholes and uneven roads with ease, and the cars safety features, including a 4-star Global NCAP rating, were significant positives. Despite some drawbacks, such as the notchy gearbox and AC performance issues, the Tiago remained a practical and usable choice.

The Tata Tiago is not available in a diesel variant. It is offered with petrol and CNG options only.

I believe the lack of a diesel variant might be a missed opportunity for Tata, especially considering the fuel efficiency and performance diesel engines can offer.

Tata Motors has reduced the prices of the Tata Tiago, with the entry-level variant now starting at Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). However, this does not apply to a diesel variant as it is not available.

Tata Motors launched the Tiago CNG automatic in four variants, starting from Rs 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom). There is no mention of a diesel variant.

The Tata Tiago is now available in two new colours – Tornado Blue and Tornado Blue Dual Tone. This update does not include any diesel variants.

The Tata Tiago, now available only in petrol and CNG variants, is priced between Rs. 5.65 lakh and Rs. 8.90 lakh (ex-showroom). For the petrol variants, the on-road price can range from approximately Rs. 6.5 lakh to Rs. 10.5 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. The CNG variants, which were introduced later, fall within a similar price bracket. The XT variant, if it were still available, would likely have been priced around the mid-range of this spectrum. Its important to note that prices can vary based on location and additional features chosen.

The mileage of the Tata Tiago is quite respectable, especially for city driving. The petrol variants offer a mileage of around 19-20.09 kmpl, while the CNG variants provide a mileage of approximately 20-26 kmkg, depending on driving conditions. This makes the Tiago a cost-effective option for daily commuting and long drives, helping to keep running costs in check.
