Expert Review by Maxabout

If we have to name a car which established Skoda in India then it has to be Octavia. This has been the most successful car from Skoda in India till date. Skoda stopped the production of this sedan though but it is still doing well in the used car market of India. Its low fuel consumption and power packed performance made it quite popular in India. The company officially unveiled the 2014 Octavia in India on 9th August and launched it on 3rd October. The base variant of petrol is priced at INR 13.95 lakhs and top model of diesel is available for INR 19.45 lakhs. Will this car be able to attract the premium sedan buyers in India once again? Let’s find out.

Usually, Skoda cars look sophisticated and elegant but things are about to the change with the all new Octavia. Based on the new MQB platform of VW, the car looks much more aggressive and sporty than any other Skoda car. This platform allows you to do physical variations and as a result of which you will notice that this car looks longer and wider than the Skoda Laura. This car is even bigger than VW Jetta which is currently the most spacious car in its class. The familiar black colored front grille of Skoda goes well with the smoky headlights of new Octavia. The front bumper features sharp lines over it which makes it look aerodynamic and attractive. The running lines on its wide bonnet also add to the sporty character of this car. Its thick front and rear pillar gives it a compact look while its full size doors with noticeable shoulder lines makes it look premium. The sharp wheel arches and 16 inches alloy wheels complements the wide stance of this car. The tail designing of Octavia looks futuristic and gives proportionate look to this car. The LED tail lights can easily grab your attention while its rear bumper with sharp lines removes the visual bulk from this car. The wide rear glass merges well with the up-raised trunk of Octavia and the new badges also looks classy.

The new age interiors of Octavia add a fresh appeal to it. The rich quality of plastic and fabrics makes it look up-market. The stretched size of this car makes it much more comfortable than Laura and other competitors. There is huge amount of leg and shoulder room inside this car. The seats also feel quite comfortable as they are well cushioned and give you nice under thigh and back support. Three adults can comfortably sit on the rear seat of Octavia.

Comfortable and Convenience

There are many new features in Octavia which makes it a very comfortable car. It has adjustable power steering, power windows, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise assistant, driving mode selection, keyless entry, tilting sunroof and many more. Apart from these, the car will also have rear armrest, electronic adjustable front seat and electrically foldable ORVMs.

Dashboard and Storage

The new fit and finish on its dual-tone dashboard adds visual charm to this car. The central console and silver finishing around its AC vents makes it look premium. The quality of plastic buttons being placed on its central console is also quite satisfactory as they are quite soft to touch. Apart from its air-cooled glove box, the car comes with door pockets and seat pockets on its front seats for storage. New Octavia has a boot capacity of 590 litres.

Music System

The central console of the car comes integrated with a touch screen audio and navigation system. The car is equipped with a radio/DVD/MP3 player with iPod and AUX connectivity. The Bluetooth system is also a vital feature in this car. Audio and Bluetooth controls come mounted on its steering wheel.

Engine and Gearbox

New Skoda Octavia is available in both petrol and diesel. The petrol variant is powered by a 4 cylinder, 1798cc engine, which generates maximum power of 177 bhp at 5100 rpm with maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1250 rpm. And the diesel variant is powered by a 4 cylinder, 1968cc turbo diesel engine, which generates maximum power of 140 bhp at 4000 rpm with maximum torque of 320 Nm at 1750 rpm. One more petrol engine is also on offer - 1.4 TSi, it generates maximum power of 138 bhp at 4500 rpm with maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1500 rpm.
