Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Updates

Recent fake spy photos of a supposed 2027 Mitsubishi Evo XI have been circulating, but they are based on old spy shots of the Outlander and have been manipulated to look like a sports sedan. These images, though convincing, are not indicative of any real plans by Mitsubishi to revive the Lancer Evolution. I think its a shame, as the design looks quite appealing.

Mitsubishi has reiterated that there are no plans to revive the Lancer Evolution, despite ongoing speculation and fan renderings. The company is currently focused on electrifying its lineup of crossovers and SUVs. I believe this shift is necessary for the companys future, but its hard not to miss the iconic Evo.

Designer Hycade has created a stunning render of an 11th-generation Lancer Evolution, showcasing a menacing design with features like a wide black grille, angular air intakes, and a pronounced chin spoiler. Although this is just a design study and not endorsed by Mitsubishi, it highlights the enduring appeal of the Evo.

Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Westcott has indicated that the company is studying the Ralliart concept, which could lead to new performance models, though not necessarily a revival of the Lancer Evolution. Instead, any future performance models might carry the Ralliart badge, possibly on an SUV. I think this could be an interesting direction for Mitsubishi.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Vision Ralliart concept, shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022, hints at a potential performance plug-in hybrid Outlander with a new triple electric motor powertrain. While this is not a direct revival of the Lancer Evolution, it suggests Mitsubishi is exploring performance options again.

The Mitsubishi Lancer nameplate continues to be used in select Asian markets, such as China and Taiwan, with the Grand suffix, although these models lack the performance heritage of the Evolution variant. The original Lancer Evolution was known for its rally-bred performance and all-wheel-drive capabilities.

Tommi Makinen won four consecutive World Rally Championships between 1996 and 1999 driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, cementing the cars legendary status in the rally world. This success contributed to the Evos enduring popularity among car enthusiasts.

The original Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, launched in 1992, was a petite sedan with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, full-time all-wheel-drive, and a five-speed manual gearbox. It quickly gained a reputation for its performance and handling, especially in rally competitions. I believe this car set a high standard for future performance vehicles.

Mitsubishi discontinued the Lancer Evolution X in 2015 and the Lancer itself in 2017 to focus on crossovers and SUVs. This decision left fans of the Evo heartbroken, as the model had a significant following and a successful history in rally competitions.

The last production model of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X was the Final Edition, released in 2016, which featured a 291-horsepower engine and 300 lb-ft of torque. This model was only available in Japan and marked the end of an era for the Evo. I think its a shame that such a legendary car is no longer in production.
