Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K2

About
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K2 is a compact vehicle that combines the looks of an SUV with the practicality of a hatchback. It is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth and light five-speed manual gearbox. The KUV100 features a unique design with prominent wheel arches and a boxy shape, providing generous headroom and decent legroom. It comes with standard features like ABS with EBD, power steering, and a driver information system. The interior is spacious, with good storage options, and the Cayman Dynamics tuned suspension ensures a comfortable ride over urban roads. However, the engine lacks muscle for highway driving, and the build quality, while acceptable at this price point, is not as refined as some of its competitors. The KUV100 also offers a 6-seater option, though the middle seat in the front row is not ideal for long journeys due to safety concerns. Overall, its a good choice for those seeking a budget-friendly, city-friendly vehicle with a unique design.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K2 is a unique offering in the Indian market, blending SUV-like aesthetics with the practicality of a hatchback. While it has its strengths, such as a smooth and light gearshift, good urban ride quality, and generous headroom, it also has some significant drawbacks. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, although peppy in city driving, lacks punch on the highways and feels strained when pushed beyond 100 kmph. The handling and noise insulation are not up to par with competitors like the Grand i10 and Ignis. Additionally, the build quality and finish could be better, with issues like squeaks and rattles noticeable even in new cars. However, its affordability, feature-loaded higher variants, and the unique 6-seater option (though not ideal for long journeys) make it a consideration for those looking for a budget-friendly, city-friendly vehicle.
Price
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K2 is priced competitively in the Indian market. The ex-showroom price for the K2 variant starts at around Rs 4.22 lakh, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, when you factor in the on-road costs, including registration, insurance, and other taxes, the price can go up to around Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. Despite this, the KUV100 remains a value-for-money proposition, especially considering its SUV-like design and the features it offers, such as ABS with EBD, power steering, and a driver information system. However, for the on-road price of the K2, you might also consider top-end variants of other premium hatchbacks or compact sedans that offer more features and better engine performance.
Latest Updates
Tuesday, 13 July 2021 07:23 PM The Mahindra KUV100 NXT, including the K2 variant, has been discontinued in the Indian market. This decision was made due to dwindling sales and the companys shift in focus towards exporting the model to other markets where it has stronger demand. I believe this move is a strategic one, as it allows Mahindra to optimize its resources and target more lucrative markets.
Monday, 03 June 2019 01:10 PM Mahindra announced that the diesel version of the KUV100, which includes the K2 variant, would be discontinued ahead of the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) regulations. The petrol and electric versions will continue to be available. I think this is a necessary step to comply with stricter emission norms, but it might disappoint some diesel enthusiasts.
Monday, 12 March 2018 04:01 PM Mahindra introduced the KUV100 Trip with a CNG option, priced at Rs. 5.16 lakh, which was a welcome addition for those looking for a more fuel-efficient variant. This move was part of Mahindras effort to offer more versatile options to its customers. I think this was a smart move to cater to the growing demand for CNG vehicles in India.
Wednesday, 04 October 2017 01:06 PM The Mahindra KUV100 NXT, including the K2 variant, received a significant update in 2017 with the NXT edition. This update included new features and styling upgrades, although there were no mechanical changes. I believe these updates were crucial in keeping the model competitive, even if it didnt drastically change the overall package.
Wednesday, 04 October 2017 12:40 PM The Mahindra KUV100 NXT K2 Plus, with its 1.2L petrol manual engine, was priced at Rs. 6.06 lakh in India. The car featured a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and other comfort features. I believe the K2 Plus offered good value for money, especially considering its feature-packed interior.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 12:45 PM The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K2 offers an ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of 18.15 kmpl, which is reasonable for a petrol engine in its class. In real-world driving, you can expect mileage to be slightly lower, around 14-16 kmpl, depending on driving conditions and traffic. This makes it a decent choice for city driving, where fuel efficiency is a key consideration. However, if you plan to use the vehicle extensively on highways, the fuel costs might be a bit higher due to the engines lack of punch and efficiency at higher speeds.

Company has large network but service quality is very bad. i purchase KUV100 K4 Diesel in March 2016. I met with an accident on 1st May 2016. Bonnet, side body, one door damaged. When I visited Dada motors, Ludhiana's service center, they give me one month time for repair work. Because they have no body parts in stock. This is my fault I bought this car from Mahindra. The customer support person is like a robot!
