Hyundai Verna Diesel EX Automatic

About
The Hyundai Verna Diesel EX Automatic from the 2017-2020 model years is a well-rounded sedan that combines robust performance with comfort and a plethora of features. The 1.6 CRDi engine produces ample torque from low revs, making it ideal for city driving. The six-speed automatic transmission is smooth and responsive, although it can struggle slightly when floored. The interior is feature-rich, with premium build quality, touchscreen infotainment, sunroof, ventilated seats, and hands-free boot release. The ride quality and handling have been significantly improved, thanks to the new K2 platform and enhanced suspension. However, the rear legroom can be a bit limited for taller passengers. Overall, its a reliable and comfortable sedan that offers a great driving experience, though the diesel option is no longer available in the latest models.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Hyundai Verna Diesel EX Automatic, specifically from the 2017-2020 model years, is a solid choice for those seeking a blend of performance, comfort, and features. The 1.6 CRDi engine offers excellent low-end torque, making city driving effortless, with a gentle step up in acceleration when the turbo kicks in. The six-speed automatic transmission is responsive and smooth, especially in city and light to medium throttle conditions. However, the diesel engine can be a bit clattery at low revs, and the lack of diesel options in the latest models might be a drawback for some. The ride quality and handling have been significantly improved, making it a comfortable and composed drive. Overall, its a reliable and feature-rich sedan, but the absence of a diesel option in newer models and some minor cabin noise are points to consider.
Price
The pricing for the Hyundai Verna Diesel EX Automatic, specifically for the 2017-2020 models, varied based on the location and the specific trim. Ex-showroom prices for the top-end SX(O) trim with the diesel automatic transmission were around 13-14 lakhs. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, would have been approximately 16-17 lakhs. Its important to note that prices can fluctuate based on regional taxes and other local factors. For those looking to purchase a used model, prices would be significantly lower, ranging from 8-12 lakhs depending on the condition, mileage, and year of the vehicle.
Latest Updates
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 06:37 AM Hyundai has not introduced a diesel engine option for the latest generation of the Verna, sticking to petrol engines only. This means there is no Hyundai Verna Diesel EX Automatic variant available in the market. I think this decision might be due to the increasing preference for petrol engines and the regulatory environment.
Monday, 04 November 2024 02:30 PM Hyundai has recently hiked the prices of the Verna by up to Rs 6,000 and added a new Amazon Grey color option along with a rear spoiler. However, these updates do not include the introduction of a diesel engine or an automatic transmission in the EX variant. I believe these cosmetic updates will still attract buyers looking for a feature-packed sedan.
Tuesday, 15 October 2024 02:25 PM The Hyundai Verna EX variant continues to be available only with a manual transmission, with no automatic transmission option. This is consistent across all petrol engine variants, as there is no diesel option available. I think this might be a missed opportunity for those seeking an entry-level automatic sedan.
Friday, 20 September 2024 08:39 AM The market trend in India is shifting towards petrol engines, which is why Hyundai has decided not to offer a diesel engine for the Verna. This decision aligns with consumer preferences and regulatory changes. I believe this shift will continue as more buyers opt for petrol-powered vehicles.
Sunday, 25 August 2024 04:25 PM Despite the absence of a diesel engine, the Hyundai Verna offers a range of features across its petrol variants, including the EX trim. These features include a sunroof, ventilated seats, and a Bose sound system. I think these features make the Verna a compelling choice even without a diesel option.
Wednesday, 10 July 2024 05:34 PM Hyundai had previously considered introducing a mild hybrid system for the Verna but dropped the plan due to unfavorable GST rates. There are no current plans to introduce a diesel hybrid or any diesel variant for the Verna. I believe this decision is based on market demand and regulatory factors.
Saturday, 15 June 2024 03:47 AM The Hyundai Verna competes in a highly competitive mid-size sedan segment in India, rivaling cars like the Honda City and Skoda Slavia. Despite not offering a diesel engine, the Verna remains a popular choice due to its feature-rich petrol variants. I think the competition will continue to drive innovation in this segment.
Monday, 20 May 2024 07:48 PM The Hyundai Verna, including its petrol variants, comes with a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating and features like six airbags, ESC, and Level 2 ADAS. These safety features are standard across all trims, making the Verna a safe choice for buyers. I believe safety is a key selling point for many consumers.
Wednesday, 10 April 2024 04:52 AM The latest generation of the Hyundai Verna received a significant design overhaul, including sleek LED lights and a more modern interior. However, these updates did not include the introduction of a diesel engine or an automatic transmission in the EX variant. I think the new design has been well-received by the market.
Monday, 25 March 2024 06:30 PM The Hyundai Verna is available with two petrol engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. Both engines are paired with manual and automatic transmission options, but not in the EX variant. I believe the turbocharged engine is a highlight for performance enthusiasts.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 04:20 AM The Hyundai Verna Diesel EX Automatic is known for its decent mileage. Hyundai claimed a mileage of 21.02 kmpl for the automatic transmission, although real-world conditions might see this figure slightly lower. This makes it a relatively fuel-efficient option, especially for city driving where the low-end torque of the diesel engine comes into play. However, with the increasing fuel prices, the actual running costs need to be factored in, but overall, it remains a viable choice for those concerned about mileage.

Hyundai 4S Verna Fluidic is like a treat to eyes. I have a black diesel Verna and I bought it in April, 2015. Me and my parents are really impressed by the looks of the car. The front fascia of the car is so ravishing that I feel the car is smiling at me (due to its curved grille at front). Not only exterior but the interior too is very impressive with premium seats and acceptable leg room. While, the riding quality depends upon your style of driving and actual usage of vehicle. I found that when my dad drives it at 60-80 speed, we enjoy a smooth ride. But When I drive it with my friends and cross 100 kms/hr speed, it starts shaking. Overall, its a good car to purchase and quite a fuel efficient too.
