General information and overview
The 2014 Hyundai Verna is a C-segment sedan featuring a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine paired with options of manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. It received a mid-life refresh focusing on improved ride and handling, stiffening the suspension to provide better road holding on Indian highways. The exterior sports fluidic design cues with updated projector headlamps and LED DRLs, giving it a modern aggressive look. Inside, the Verna offers a plush cabin with beige leather upholstery, ample legroom, and a feature-rich dashboard including a gear position indicator and reverse parking camera integrated into the internal mirror. Safety is well-covered with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, and disc brakes on all wheels. The spacious boot adds to its practicality. It remains a well-appointed option among diesel sedans, offering comfort, value, and respectable mileage for the price bracket it competes in India.
The 2014 Hyundai Verna is a midsize sedan well-regarded for its mix of style, technology, and comfort tailored to Indian buyers. It features a 1.6-litre diesel engine option paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, known for smooth and responsive performance. The 2014 facelift brought sharper exterior fluidic design lines to modernize its look and an upgraded suspension setup for a firmer, more stable ride compared to earlier models. Inside, the Verna offers spacious front seating, supportive cushions, beige leather upholstery, and multiple safety features including six airbags, ABS, and electronic brakeforce distribution. The dashboard includes a blue-lit instrument cluster with gear position indicators and a rearview camera display on the internal mirror. Boot capacity is generous, catering well to family needs. Although steering feedback can still improve, overall driving dynamics are balanced for city and highway use. The Verna’s competitive mileage, safety, and comfort make it one of the preferred sedans from its generation, maintaining relevance in the Indian used car market.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The 2014 Hyundai Verna stands out as a well-rounded sedan that delivers a balanced mix of modern styling, improved ride quality, and practicality. The mid-life facelift brought subtle cosmetic changes like projector headlights with LED DRLs, but the notable improvement lies in the stiffer suspension and enhanced handling dynamics, which offer better stability on highways and reduced rear bounce over rough patches. While it still doesn’t match the driving engagement of some European rivals, it is a confident, composed cruiser suitable for Indian roads. The steering sensitivity has improved, making maneuvering easier, and disc brakes on all four wheels enhance safety during braking. The interior feels premium with beige leather upholstery and decent space, though rear window lines affect rear passenger visibility a bit. Overall, with its strong safety equipment like ABS, EBD, and multiple airbags, plus a spacious boot and comfortable cabin, the Verna 2014 remains a popular, value-for-money package in its segment that appeals especially to buyers prioritizing comfort and practicality over sporty handling.
The 2014 Hyundai Verna delivers an impressive blend of style, comfort, and safety that makes it a strong contender in the C-segment sedan market in India. The mid-life update addresses earlier concerns about ride and handling by stiffening the suspension for a more planted feel on the road, though steering feedback could still be more precise. Safety has been significantly improved with six airbags, ABS, and EBD, which boosts confidence behind the wheel. The cabin feels premium, especially with beige leather interiors and spacious front legroom, though rear headroom is slightly compromised by the slanting rear window line. The boot space is generous, accommodating common family needs. The diesel engine paired with a smooth automatic transmission provides a quick yet refined drive, making it enjoyable for both city and highway cruising. While the features and comfort are commendable, the ride is firm, which might not appeal to everyone. Overall, this model remains a well-rounded and reliable choice for buyers seeking value, refinement, and safety in a used sedan.

The 2014 Hyundai Verna was often compared to its main competitors, such as the Honda City and the Volkswagen Vento. While it held its own in terms of features and performance, it sometimes lagged behind in terms of fuel efficiency and advanced safety features. I believe that this competition pushed Hyundai to continuously improve the Verna.

Pricing details and changes
In India, the 2014 Hyundai Verna was priced competitively in the mid-size sedan segment. The ex-showroom price for the top variant with the 1.6L diesel engine and automatic transmission typically ranged between INR 9.5 lakh to INR 11 lakh when new. On-road prices, which include insurance, road tax, and registration fees, varied by city but generally added 10-15% to the ex-showroom cost, putting the on-road price in metro cities like Delhi or Mumbai closer to INR 10.5 lakh to INR 12.5 lakh. Given its rich feature list and improvements over the outgoing model, buyers found the pricing justified against rivals offering fewer premium features. Over time, depreciation and availability impact value, but even then, the Verna retained decent resale value due to Hyundai’s strong service network and perceived reliability. For budget-conscious Indian customers, the balance between price, feature content, ride quality, and brand credibility makes the 2014 Verna a practical choice in the used car market.
In India, the ex-showroom price of the 2014 Hyundai Verna ranged approximately between ₹8.5 lakh and ₹11 lakh depending on the variant, with the higher-spec SX CRDi automatic variant costing towards the upper side. On-road costs including insurance, road tax, and registration would typically add another ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh, varying by city and state regulations. Pricing for this model in the used car market now reflects its age and condition but still offers competitively strong value due to Hyundai’s brand reliability and availability of spares. For buyers looking at the 2014 Verna, it is important to consider that while the initial costs were premium for the segment, depreciation has softened it, offering a mature feature set and strong residual build quality at a reasonable price point in the used market. Fuel efficiency and safety features remain good selling points that support its price retention.
Fuel efficiency information
The diesel Verna’s mileage in Indian conditions is a strong point, averaging around 18-22 km/l depending on driving style and city or highway usage. Real-world city mileage hovers around 14-15 km/l, while highways can yield over 20 km/l, making it economical for daily commuting and long drives. This fuel efficiency, combined with Hyundai’s relatively low maintenance costs, reduces running expenses, helping buyers concerned about mileage make a confident purchase decision.
The 2014 Hyundai Verna diesel delivers commendable fuel efficiency, with real-world figures around 14-15 km/l in city traffic and up to 22 km/l on highways, which is excellent for this class of vehicle. The New Hyundai Verna is a perfect definition of style, luxury and power. Known for following a fluidic sculpture, the car redefines the harmonious blend of beautiful interior and sporty exterior. With the Verna, you seem to be riding on a natural rhythm of life that blends well with its adorable style and luxury and sporty look. The new Verna will definitely attract your attention by just its mere presence. Hyundai, the car manufacturer of the Verna is a South Korean company that firstly introduced the Verna in 2006. The company created the Hyundai Verna to compete with other vehicles of the C+ segment like the Fiat Linea, the Maruti Suzuki Sx4 and the Volkswagen Vento. By just looking at its new looks and almost complete modern features, it is quite certain that the Hyundai Verna will not only compete but may also outrun other cars in its segment.
Hyundai India has updated the Verna sedan, which now comes with host of comfort and styling features. The new models will now feature all-new headlamp units with integrated day-time running LEDs plus new set of alloy wheels. As far as interior is concerned, it comes with back-lit power window buttons plus steering mounted audio controls.
