Hyundai Alcazar Review
Expert Review by Maxabout
Sitting in the driver’s seat of the Hyundai Alcazar 2024, I am impressed by the spacious space and premium mood. With the current facelift and the features so possessed, this automobile is set to give tougher competition than before to other cars in this SUV league like the Mahindra XUV700 And Tata Safari. And as someone who hails from a heavily SUV driven household myself am aware of how stood up – or down, in this case, did Alcazar against others and if it would be able to stand out amongst the sea of SUVs in India Market of practically any price range.
Design and Aesthetics
At first glance, the Alcazar has an eye-catching redesign on the front. Presently, the diamond cascade grille, which was part of the former model, is discarded and is replaced with an even more elegant and contemporary slender radiator grille. These H shape LED daytime running lights which are installed on the edges of the grille add a class and a uniqueness to the Alcazar, making it resemble high-end SUVs. Strolling to the back of the vehicle, I am able to observe that while the overall silhouette remains largely unchanged, the subtle tweaks to the front and rear bumpers and new alloys give the Alcazar a more masculine and dominating stance on the road.
Walking through the threshold, the first thing I notice is how that it is a better designed and constructed cabin than its predecessor cabin. The dual-tone interior with the use of premium materials and well-placed ergonomics in the interiors impresses me instantly. The panoramic sunroof brightens up the cabin with loads of natural light, thus giving an even bigger illusion of space. What in particular amazes me is the second row especially in 6 seater settings with captain seats which is usually neglected. The extra features such as these ventilation for these seats and where to place the controls show that Hyundai has given the most importance to the passengers. Performance and Powertrain: Under the hood, the 2024 Alcazar has a choice of 2 engines, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol or 1.5 litre diesel engine. I start my test drive with the turbo-petrol variant, which produces a healthy 158 bhp and 253 Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed DCT, this powertrain is extremely responsive and refined. As I thread through the ease in the traffic of Udaipur, I find it quite gentler with the pressure on the accelerator and even more gentler with the speed even with DCT’s blipping quick shifts. But once I get out on the highway and start nailing the Alcazar down, I begin to detect that the kickdown has a little lag that may disappoint more sporty drivers.
Going to the diesel variant, I have to say I am indeed impressed by its level of refinement. One hundred fifteen bhp combined with 250 Nm of torque may appear to make it a relatively under powered unit when in fact, it cars quite well, particularly within the perimeters of a city. One cannot complain of the 6 speed auto box that comes with it because it feels rather smooth and its comforting quality does not go unnoticed.
Even during the last part of my test with the Alcazar, I found its ride quality to be quite good. Here is a crossover burr that does not bounce about too much giving a pleasant ride, how properly, no soft walls more on stable walls even compound irregularities comfortably. The steering though rather light which is tend to be favored for city driving as it is easy to turn may be slightly more engaged at higher speeds since I prefer more feel. All in all however, they have been tuned more for comfortable driving rather than sportiness, which feeds into the buyers of families that the car is aimed at.
Features and Technology
It is a fact that Hyundai has always been one of the pioneers in reinventing feature-rich vehicles in India and 2024 Alcazar is no different. The 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system is detailed, responsive and is loaded with features inclusive of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster is no less impressive and provides information as well as display graphics that can be modified whenever required.
What attracts me most are the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features. The Alcazar is equipped with 19 autonomous features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and forward collision warning which makes it a notable improvement in terms of safety technology for its segment. My experience with these features was quite ok, however, I happened to observe that the lane keep assist feature could sometimes be a little bit too aggressive especially on Indian roads where there are no clear lanes.
Other exceptional features worth mention include the Bose premium sound system which is very effective when it comes to sound quality and the front and second row ventilated seats which are very helpful in Indias’ hot and humid weather. Another feature that I find quite useful is the 360-degree camera system, more so while parking and navigating through spaces that are confined.
Variants
The 2024 Alcazar is available in four main variants namely Executive, Prestige, Platinum, and Signature. By interacting with various variants, I contend that it is the Platinum which presents the most optimal cutting of feature set and price. This includes the majority of frying pan and cooler features such as panoramic sunroof, ventilator andADAS sadly excluding the price tag of the last Signature variant.
Even though the Executive variant is affordably priced, it fails to incorporate some features which, in my opinion, are relevant in this class of vehicles. The Signature on the contrary prices the head-up display and the premium upholstery among other pleasures of luxury; however, the price increase may be hard to convince several buyers.
Market Position and Pricing
Alcazar which comes with three rows of seats is a premium product for theSRK market, is astonished by the ex-showroom prices of between Rs. 14.99 lakhs and Rs. 21.55 lakhs for their Alcazar jackets. It's a little more affordable than the Hyundai Creta but this is easily accountable with the added row of seats as well as more luxurious features. When looking at its counterparts such as the Mahindra XUV700 (13.99 lakh to 26.99 lakh scall fold) and Tata Safari (16.19 lakh to 27.34 lakhs) the Alcazhar needs to be marketed as more premium-targeted.
In my view, the Alcazar is likely to be seen as overly expensive, more so on the price lists in the showroom; however, the features, construction quality, and the brand itself place it within attractive options for consideration in the segment. The pricing strategy enables it to go head-to-head with entry level models of bigger SUVs and premium compact SUVs, thus occupying a peculiar place in the market.
Target Audience
Spending a great deal of time with the Alcazar, I think the target market for this vehicle is urban families with features and a premium experience than the outlandish space or off-road abilities. It is best suited for customers who only use the third row infrequently but do not wish to compromise on luxury and tech. The Alcazar should be ideal for busy working professionals or small entrepreneurs who require a multipurpose automobile for family trips and commuting with business partners.
Value for Money
About the value for money level of the Alcazar, I would say that the proposition is quite strong and I would particularly encourage mid range variants of it. Omega’s soft touch interior, features and Hyundai’s brand brings forth a good package. It does not have the expansive interior that some rivals do, but makes up for this in a more high market approach and emphasis on the comfort of the passengers.
Mileage and Fuel Efficiency
In terms of mileage, Hyundai claims 18.0 Km/l for turbo-petrol DCT and 20.4 Km/l for the diesel automatic, which is ARAI certified figure. I was able to get an approximate of 13 - 14 km/l in a blended driving environment while using the petrol engine, which is decent for the size and power output of such kind of vehicle. The diesel, as expected, returned much better figures, running at about 16 - 17 km/l in similar conditions. These are indeed great numbers for its class, however, there are those who will be able to buy those figures, which is something buyers looking for maximum efficiency should keep in mind.
Competitors and Comparison
The Alcazar’s principal rival in India is the Mahindra XUV700, the Tata Safari and to a certain extent, the Hector Plus from MG. While the XUV700 has more muscle and space, the Alcazar comes out tops in terms of the luxury interior offerings and the quality of fitting and finishing, though it lags behind in sheer muscle and even space. The Alcazar is as good as the Safari in terms of premium feel but the Safari has a more dominating road presence and has a more accommodating third row seat.
The area where the Alcazar excels is in merits of functionality, refinement and brand equity. Its ride quality is class leading and the level of technology being offered on board especially the ADAS has put the car in front of many of its competitors. On the best space avail equilibrium at maximum space or maximum power are however options such as the XUV700 or the Safari.
Conclusion
So as I type this last impression regarding the 2024 Hyundai Alcazar I am left with a fairly pleased impression of the car. It is a well-balanced car which effectively meets the needs of buyers looking for premium compact SUVs or three row cars. Restyles appearance combined with cutting-edge capabilities and excellent comfort of movement makes it worthy to be in its segment.
It may not be the most spacious or powerful candidate in its category, but the Alcazar performs extremely well in incorporating luxurious feel, modern technology and believe it or not reliability of Hyundai. There is a powerful need to cater to the urban families who want a multi utility SUV packed with all the features yet retaining the style and comfort and Alcazar makes a great pitch for that.
Its influence on the seating arrangement of that SUV is expected to be acute when it launches since it will eclipse a large number of current models in the market. In my opinion this is a great car especially if you share the views of prioritizing quality construction, new technology, and comforts instead of brute force or carrying capacity. It speaks volumes about how Hyundai has understood the changing landscape of the Indian automotive industry and how they have been able to produce a product which fits the needs of the urban SUV buyer.
