The 2013 Audi A8L 4.2 FSI is a long-wheelbase luxury sedan that epitomizes sophisticated German engineering combined with opulent comfort. Powered by a 4.2-liter V8 petrol engine delivering roughly 372 bhp and over 440 Nm of torque, it offers smooth and robust performance paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission and Audi’s renowned quattro AWD system. The extended wheelbase enhances rear seat legroom significantly, making it perfect for chauffeur-driven owners. Infotainment includes a retractable MMI screen, navigation, premium Bose sound, and rear seat entertainment with individual controls. Safety and convenience come from an adaptive air suspension, night vision assist, multiple airbags, and advanced driver aids. The aesthetics maintain Audi’s understated yet commanding design language with LED lighting and sharp lines. Expert opinion and recommendation
The 2013 Audi A8L 4.2 FSI is a perfect blend of luxury, technology, and performance that easily rivals any premium sedan in its class in India. Its imposing design and huge presence on the road make a strong statement, while the quattro all-wheel-drive system ensures remarkable handling and composure. Inside, the cabin feels like a sanctuary, with sumptuous leather seats including massage and ventilation features, advanced multi-media interfaces, and luxuries like a built-in fridge and retractable tables, putting rear passengers in complete comfort. The 4.2-liter V8 petrol engine delivers smooth yet aggressive power, offering effortless acceleration and a refined driving experience. While the front passenger’s luxuries lag slightly behind the rear, the overall interior craftsmanship, laden with wood and aluminum trims, exudes understated elegance. The technology blend — from adaptive suspension to night vision and customizable ambient lighting — boosts the allure. Its ride quality balances comfort and sportiness impressively for such a large car. The only catch is the maintenance and running costs, which are high but expected for this ultra-luxury segment in India. Overall, the A8L is an ultimate chauffeur-driven or executive luxury sedan that offers exclusivity, tech, and commanding road presence unmatched in its era.
The 2013 Audi A8L stands out as a luxury sedan that blends commanding presence with technological sophistication and interior opulence. Its 4.2-liter V8 diesel engine delivers strong, effortless power, making highway cruising and urban driving equally refined. The car’s ride quality is exemplary, thanks to adaptive air suspension that cushions irregularities while maintaining poise. The cabin is designed with a focus on rear passenger comfort, featuring reclining massage seats, climate controls, a mini fridge, and an intuitive MMI infotainment system that elevate the chauffeur-driven experience to near first-class standards. Despite its size, the A8L handles with surprising agility for a limousine of this class while providing solid road grip via quattro all-wheel drive. The understated yet imposing design avoids flamboyance but never fails to impress onlookers with its sheer stature and build quality. However, the front passenger seat experience is relatively unremarkable, emphasizing the rear-centric luxury focus. Overall, the 2013 A8L is perfect for buyers seeking a prestigious, comfortable, and powerful limousine where subtlety and technological refinement dominate over flashiness.
Recent news and announcements
In 2013, the Audi A8 received new engine offerings, including a supercharged V-6 and a turbo V-8, along with the availability of a 12-cylinder engine. These updates enhanced the vehicles performance and luxury appeal. I think these engine options made the A8 a strong contender in the luxury sedan market.
The 2013 Audi A8 also saw the introduction of standard all-wheel drive and the availability of both regular and long-wheelbase versions. This added versatility and comfort for passengers. The long-wheelbase version was particularly popular for its spacious interior.
Audi integrated advanced technology into the 2013 A8, including Google Earth-based navigation and Wi-Fi capability. These features were a significant step forward in terms of infotainment and connectivity. I believe this tech upgrade was a game-changer for luxury cars at that time.
The 2013 Audi A8 boasted a redesigned interior with high-quality materials and craftsmanship. The cabin was known for its comfort and elegance, making it a favorite among luxury car buyers. The attention to detail in the interior design was impressive.
In terms of safety, the 2013 Audi A8 included several advanced features such as automatic emergency braking and a comprehensive airbag system. These safety features contributed to the vehicles high safety ratings. I think the emphasis on safety was a wise move by Audi.
Pricing details and changes
In India, the 2013 Audi A8L 4.2 FSI petrol variant was priced approximately between ₹1.1 crore to ₹1.5 crore ex-showroom, depending on location and dealership. On-road prices including taxes, insurance, and handling charges could push it beyond ₹1.4 crore in major metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Such pricing placed the A8L firmly among ultra-luxury sedans, competing with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series at the time. Despite being a used model now, its original price reflected Audi’s positioning of the A8 as a flagship laden with premium features and cutting-edge tech. For buyers keen on exclusivity, ride quality, and advanced creature comforts, this tier of pricing was justified, though it meant heavier depreciation and high running costs. The A8L’s price point also meant ownership was largely limited to those valuing supreme luxury and brand prestige over cost savings. For a 2013 model today, the resale price in India varies widely based on condition, service history, and variant but remains significant for a used luxury sedan at this level.
The 2013 Audi A8L in India was originally priced ex-showroom at around ₹1.05 crore to ₹1.10 crore depending on the variant and city, with the 4.2 TDI V8 diesel variant positioned at the higher end due to its advanced features and engine. On-road prices in major metro cities would typically reach ₹1.15 crore or more after including taxes, registration, insurance, and road fees. Such pricing places the Audi A8L firmly in the ultra-luxury segment, competing against top German LWB sedans. This price reflects its status as a status symbol equipped with a range of cutting-edge technologies, high-end materials, and exceptional build quality. For Indian buyers, the premium is justified by the exclusivity, the best-in-class rear-seat comfort, and the strong brand prestige Audi commands, though the high running costs and limited dealer network may be considerations for some. The car caters mostly to executives and those looking for a prestigious chauffeured limousine rather than just a driver’s car.
Fuel efficiency information
The 2013 Audi A8L 4.2 FSI petrol delivers an average mileage of around 8 to 9 kmpl in Indian city and highway conditions, which is typical for a large V8 petrol luxury sedan. Fuel consumption will be higher in heavy traffic or aggressive driving. If fuel economy and low running costs are major concerns, this model may not be ideal given its powertrain and size. However, if luxury, performance, and prestige take priority, and mileage is a secondary factor, it still holds appeal.
The 2013 Audi A8L 4.2 TDI diesel in India delivers mileage in the range of 9 to 12 kmpl under real-world conditions, which is typical for a large luxury sedan with a powerful V8 diesel. While the fuel efficiency isn't outstanding, it’s reasonable considering the car’s weight, power output, and luxury features, but buyers concerned about running costs should be prepared for moderate fuel expenses and maintenance overheads typical of such premium big sedans.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Audi A8 (2013)
Audi A8 has been an inspiration for many cars ever since its launch. The third generation of this full size luxury sedan takes the competition to the next level.
Audi A8 has been an inspiration for many cars ever since its launch. The third generation of this full size luxury sedan takes the competition to the next level.
Exterior
You won’t much complain about its appearance but when you spend this much of money, you do except exclusivity which is missing in this car due to its high resemblance with its younger siblings. As we mentioned before, it has inspired many cars in terms of designing which also includes most of its younger siblings. Still, Audi has tried to give it a unique identity with an extended typical Audi bumper grille with chrome linings, LED headlights and a long bonnet which makes it look appealing. The car looks very proportionate thanks to its well-designed rear overhang. With 18 and 19 inch alloy wheels and large side panels, it looks pretty mature and stable. Rear profiling could have been better as you will have to look for its name to differentiate it from its cheaper siblings.
Interior
The real story starts when you get inside this car. It offers you the best interiors till date in any A8. The plastic, wooden and chrome finishing everything inside looks marvellous. It has high quality stuff inside which feels extremely classy and the aura inside is one of its kinds. Most of the owners will sit at the back and believe me the comfort level speaks for its price. There is acres of legroom for the rear passengers as its front seats move forward to give you full space and the front passengers also gets more than satisfactory space.
Comfort and Convenience
It will need you a book to know about the features inside this car to provide you maximum comfort and convenience especially for the rear passengers who can also opt for the rear seating package which is only for two people but offers utmost comfort. Everything is electrically adjustable inside from its seat adjustment to driving mode and even seat belts.
Dashboard and Storage
It has a dual tone dashboard with a centre console. It also has a spacious glove box and standard storage spaces with plenty of space at the back.
Music System
The rear passengers will have a separate DVD player with card slots and 20 GB hard drive. It will have a MMI control panel for the rear passengers with a 5.1 BOSE surround system and separate volume controls in the rear armrest. The optional rear entertainment package will include two 10.2 inch LCD displays on back of front seats, Bang and Olufsen music system and TV tuner.
Engine and Gearbox
There are 4 engine options available in A8. Its basic 4.2FSi petrol engine churns out a maximum power and torque output of 372 bhp and 445 Nm at 6800 rpm and 3500 rpm respectively. Its second W12 cylinder petrol engine pumps out a power and torque output of 500 bhp and 625 Nm available at 6200rpm and 4750rpm. It also has 2 diesel engines. First of them is a 3.0L TDI engine with a power output of 250bhp coming at 4000 rpm with a torque output of 550 Nm ranging from 1500 rpm-3000 rpm. The second V8 4.2 TDI diesel engine generates a power of 346 bhp at 4000 rpm with 800 Nm of torque ranging from 1750 rpm – 2750 rpm. All these engines are mated with 8-speed automatic transmission.
Acceleration and Performance
As expected, its W12 petrol engine is the fastest amongst all four engines with a timing of around 4.7 seconds to reach 0-100 km/hour. It is both V8 cylinder 4.2FSi and 4.2TDI engines take almost similar time of around 5.8 seconds to reach 100 km/hour from standstill. The diesel V8 feels a bit faster than petrol; thanks to its massive 800 Nm of torque. The smaller 3.0L diesel engine is the slowest amongst all as it does dash-100km/hour in more than 6 seconds. Audi uses space frame aluminium construction in A8 which reduces it body weight and increases its power to weight ratio in comparison to its rivals which uses steel body frame. All these engines come with a limited top speed of 250km/hr.
Mileage
The most powerful W12 petrol engine is also the most fuel efficient engine with an overall mileage of around 12 km/ltr. Its 3.0L engine returns around 9km/ltr while the 4.2L FSi and 4.2L TDI engines gives a fuel efficiency of around 7 km/ltr and 8 km/ltr respectively.
Safety Features
Audi A8 is loaded with 8 airbags, parking assist camera, all-wheel drive grip, ESP, traction control and many more. This car has a long list of safety features.
Suspension and Brakes
It has an adaptive air suspension with flexible settings which are very effective with its all-wheel drive system. Keeping its weight in mind, the suspension is designed to give you optimum comfort and it does it extremely well. All four wheels are fitted with ventilated disk brakes and ABS with EBD for accurate braking.
Ride and Handling
The new A8 pleases you with its ride quality. Its self-adjustable suspension and extended wheelbase of 3122mm along with its broad tyres confirms you a plush ride. With a turning radius of 12.7m, it is easy for driver also as it handles really well and one can have a good all-around visibility. For a size of this car, body roll is quite expected but its suspension holds it really well at sharp corners.
Shades and Warranty
The four variants of A8 are offered in five metallic and 3 pearl effect paint finishes. It’s also available in optional Audi exclusive individual paints. The Audi A8 comes with a 2years/unlimited kilometres warranty program from Audi.
Variants
Audi A8 is available in four variants: 4.2 FSi, 6.3 W12, 3.0 TDi and 4.2 TDi. The Audi A8 Security is available on special order.
Verdict
Audi A8 is expensive than its rivals including Mercedes and BMW and becomes more expensive with optional packages. We agree the fact that its high pricing may not impress many but when you are buying such cars the worthiness of that car becomes more important than its pricing and this car has all those qualities like its features, its high pricing. For me, it’s a good deal and we expect it to put up a great show.
